Pennyworth “The Hunted Fox” Review

Season 2 Episode 4 “Still haunted by tragedy, Alfred agrees to join Gully’s team on an upcoming job. Meanwhile, pressure begins to take its toll on Harwood and direct him toward Project Stormcloud.”

What I Liked?

1. The episode opens with an emotional yet solid scene, Alfred is having another dream, we’ve seen him have these all season long just this time, it’s Dave Boy and Bazza in his dreams, Alfred and Dave Boy argue about who’s to blame for Bazza’s death, then Bazza appears and admits that it’s Alfred’s fault since he didn’t wait and get a feel for the plan. They argue some more and Alfred awakens in a sweat.

2. John Ripper wants to release prisoners and send them to fight a war against the Raven Society. He showcases his plan to the Queen with 2 prisoners fighting to the death and whoever wins will receive a pardon.

3. While on the mission with Thomas Wayne, Martha plans to split them up to help Thomas out. She invites Patricia’s new boyfriend to her apartment and he gets naked, Thomas and Patricia walk in and they end it and Patricia chases him down the street.

4. Dave Boy and Banjo get into an argument which then leads into a fight which is quickly broken up by Alfred and Gully. Gully then smacks his wife then goes to again when she slaps him, Alfred steps in and they argue and pull out knives, they go separate ways when Gully leaving a job offer for Alfred.

5. There is a spy in the midst of the Raven Society, a tech guy. His name is Lucius Fox. Nice little appearance by a fan-favorite here. He’s on a mission to find out and record what the Raven Society has created, a weapon that can kill people in a matter of seconds and disappear without a trace.

What I Disliked?

1. Martha Wayne jumps at any chance to help Thomas Wayne out even though they fell out the last episode. I get why they need to do this but it’s just super bad and slightly boring.

2. For a midseason finale, this was really slow and bad. It had nothing “explosive” for a midseason finale, hardly any action, and just bland. Disappointing.

Favorite Moment

Dave Boy and Alfred join Gully and his team on a mission to hijack some gold from the Mayor, they place a small explosive on the door of the carriage which rocks Alfred and he gets a flashback of Bazza dying. Alfred lashes out at the Mayor beating him with a gun and sticking it in his mouth.

Standout Character

Alfred, really tangled with a loss this episode, the effects of loss, and what it can do to one’s mind.

The Verdict

For a midseason finale, this was barely an average episode. This was super disappointing. Nothing truly happened in this episode apart from Alfred doing a heist which lasted all of 2 minutes and what the Raven Society has created.
