We got our first official look at Gotham Knights back at DC FanDome with a brand new trailer to sink our teeth into. There was a lot to take away from that event, but as a huge videogame fan, this is one that got me excited nearly above all else.
The game is being developed by WB Games Montreal, and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and currently has no release date, except we can expect it to drop this year at some point.
The first bit that got my hyped was the characters. Playable characters at that. We get to choose between 4 characters. Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood with each character having their own unique set of abilities and playstyles.
These 4 heroes come together after the death of Batman and Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. They’re left a pre-recorded message from Bruce, and it essentially goes from there – encountering villains such as Mr Freeze and The Court of Owls.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the game for me personally is the co-op aspect. We know we can drop in and out with friends online and play through the entire game with a friend. It is limited to only 2 that we’re hearing but I still don’t mind that.
There isn’t many games out there that let you just chill out with a friend online and play through an immersive story.
Let’s not forget that the game just looks absolutely incredible. There’s no question. The voice actor for Red Hood, and more known for his voice as Mister Negative from the Spider-Man PS4 game, Stephen Oyoung shared a post on Twitter with an image of Red Hood, and damn!
The game will be released over multiple consoles including PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series X and PC. A great move from the studio in ensuring most people will have the capability to play this which is always a plus for gamers out there. Especially those struggling to get their hands on the next-generation consoles.
The game will boast an open-world aspect and can use the Batcycle to explore the city which adds another element into the game to make it just so much better.
One thing to note is that this game will be completely separate from the Arkham games previously and will be set in a different universe. Personally, I don’t mind this at all. I kind of like the idea that the playable characters get their own time to shine, without it being too centred of Batman.
Whilst a lot of details are still limited and we only have one trailer currently. I am beyond excited for this, perhaps above all other videogames coming out this year. If you haven’t already, you can watch the trailer here;
