Season 2 episode 9 “Tyrone and Tandy turn to a questionable ally to stop the human trafficking ring. Tandy learns about Lia’s past.”
What Was Good?
1. The episode started off with a flashback to a earlier time, not just anytime but the day the headache’s started for Andre. 96 Months ago Andre is with his band playing in a jazz club trying to hit a note that makes people a legend, a god, he hits it then immediately drops to the floor with a headache. We see this affecting him for months until he goes to commit suicide on the night of the oilrig explosion with gave Tandy and Tyrone their powers.
2. Tandy and Brigid (Mayhem) set off to find the girls Andre was keeping at the motel when they come across Lia’s body, she’s still alive but everything else is gone. Her and the other girls are humming the same music note. We eventually see what happens when Andre has completely drains someone of their hope and memories, inside the persons mind it’s literally just a black void.
3. We see another Andre flashback, this time the flashback is of when he commits suicide which is the night of the oilrig explosion. The explosion happens and knocks him into the water seemingly saving his life, he awakens in a hospital where Lia is a nurse, Andre touches her hand and he finds out what he can do so he manipulates her into helping him find other people he can do it to.
4. Mayhem wants to kill Lia and she tries to do it but Tandy stops her and this leads to an awesome fight scene between the two, they are evenly matches in terms of fighting so Mayhem tells Tandy that if Lia wakes up and does what she was doing that’s on Tandy.
5. Tyrone is following Solomon, the kid he saved earlier in the season, he rings his mom and they have a chat, Tyrone asks her about Connors and his mom straight up lies to Tyrone which he could sense so he teleports to her and looks in the window to see his mom burning newspaper with blood on it.
6. Tandy and Tyrone arrive at Andre’s location to find loads of people and Tandy’s mom under Andre’s spell. Tyrone tells Tandy that they won’t make it to Andre in time before he finishes his music so Tyrone tells Tandy to throw a dagger at Tyrone and he disappears with it and appears infront of Andre which makes the people all disappear.
What Was Bad?
1. The whole situation with Andre, Don’t get me wrong he’s a decent villain but he gets headaches so he drains people of hope and wants to hit a music note to make him self into a god?
Holy Shit Moment
1. Tyrone goes into a cafe to speak to Solomon and there is a newspaper which a article on the front. The article title is “Luke Cage in Harlem Rumble” and wrote by none other than Karen Page. What make’s this even more of a better nod is that the photo on the paper is of Mike Colter who portrayed Luke Cage over on Netflix. The shows are officially connected.
2. Tyrone sets a meeting with the 2 gangs he robbed in the season 2 premiere. They try to ambush Tyrone so he teleports the 2 gang leaders on top of a high building and one leader decides to call Tyrone a bitch so he pushes him off and lets him fall for a few seconds before teleporting him back up and he tells the leaders they are now going to follow some rules.
The Verdict
Solid second to last episode of the season leaves a cliffhanger for the season finale. Tyrone fully committing to saving the city. Tandy personal connection to stopping Andre has gotten even more exciting now.
