Disney+ launched in the US in November 2019, and very shortly after we got the first season of The Mandalorian, which was met with huge praise from critics, fans and even casuals all around the world.
People even commented stating Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau carried the Star Wars universe with this show on their backs, and it’s very easy to see why.
The Mandalorian was created and made with care, not just from the Directors. The Executives, actors, even all the way down to the design team. They made the show special, and why? Because they CARED.
This was even more evident in the second season, and this is where the bar is set so high. Nobody, even myself, expected to see a de-aged Mark Hamill return as Luke Skywalker in the finale. It shows now because even WandaVision created so much speculation because of that single moment, and the same is happening right now with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Whether it’s The Mandalorian, WandaVision or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the entire internet blows up with every single episode. There’s a reason, it’s really not very often a poor episode. That’s the truth.
The series are shorter than what we see with other shows, but that’s because it gets to the point instead of doing loops around the corner just to fill an episode in. The CW is bad for this, and it’s obvious when an episode has no meaning to the story because it’s just a “filler” episode.
Every episode that comes out from Disney+ is made with care. I said it earlier, and you can tell when you’re watching an episode from Disney+. It’s the ONLY network that honestly gets me excited for a running show these days because you know no matter what you’re in for a treat.
Take a look at the last episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Baron Zemo, Ayo, Sharon Carter were all brought back, but they were brought back because they made sense. It is similar but obviously not as big a moment as Luke Skywalker. It all MAKES SENSE.
They’re not just brought in for the shock factor or for people to talk about. Whilst yes, that is probably a factor but they’re brought back because they play a role in the story.
I was sceptical at first with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Spider-Man: Far From Home, I couldn’t see how Marvel could 1. Move forward, and 2. Be better than DC on the small screen, but they’ve proved me wrong on both counts that they can and they absolutely have been.
I love DC TV, especially the Arrowverse, but it’s hard to ignore the effort and professionalism that is being put in by Marvel right now, and I do like it’s only going to get better. With shows announced such as Loki, Hawkeye, Ironheart, Armor Wars and many others – it’s an exciting time to be a superhero fan, especially since DC is showing no signs of stopping either.
Disney+ however does run off the back of the success of the MCU, and that’s obvious considering it’s the biggest franchise on the planet – but the shows are masterpieces as well. They all give us that sense of emotion, love, and connection to the characters and plot.
Every show should take a note out of their book.
