Season 1 Episode 6 – Clark reconsiders his decision to let Jordan play football; Lois’ continued investigation of Morgan Edge requires her to trust an unexpected ally.
What I Liked
1. It’s just something about the way someone clicks that responder to let Superman know they’re in danger that makes it so good. Literally a second or so later he’s just there, and he does as Tag beats Jordan to a pulp. A great start and a great welcome back for the show.
2. Jordan’s persistence is admirable, I have to admit. Even after hearing such high-pitched screeches after being battered all over the place by Tag, he still wants to play in the football game to prove a point. He was relentlessly bullied by his school in Metropolis so I understand it.
3. Clark begins to train Jordan, especially in a way that allows him to control his raw power and strength. When Jordan hits the massive tree trunk and leaves an imprint of his fist, Jon gets super excited for him and it just an extremely nice moment.
4. After the Metropolis and Smallville game, Jordan gets jumped by quite a few guys and he loses control of his laser vision again. This moment hit hard when he was lying on the floor struggling to contain it, Clark rushes over and puts his hands out in order to let Jordan unleash the beams. An intense but great scene!
5. Jon and Jordan head out with the team after Clark goes for Tag. When they’re out they are predictably stumbled across by the Metropolis team. Jordan and Cutter go head to head, and obviously, Jordan is wound up in such a brutal way – he then swings a punch, but Jon stupidly puts his hand in the way. You know where it’s going but the scene was so intense.
What I Disliked
Nothing to report this week.
Favourite Moment
As Clark finds Tag with Sarah, he proceeds to offer his help. Tag is obviously reluctant, but the DOD burst in with guns ready. They fire shots at Tag but Clark steps in the way demanding they stand down, they then fire Kryptonite bullets at him. This is where the intensity triples, Clark almost loses his temper but just cools off in time when he goes for one of the soldiers. The way the showrunners deliver these types of shots is just done so incredibly well.
Standout Character
It’s going to Jordan this week. For multiple reasons but mainly because Alex Garfin’s acting is incredible. He absolutely nails the role. The emotional impact, especially coming face to face with former bullies was great, and having to deal with the pain he’s causing by losing control.
Verdict
Superman and Lois is proving yet again why it’s carrying the entire Arrowverse on its back right now. This episode was just a masterpiece, there’s nothing more I can really say other than that. This show really is special.
