The Flash “Family Matters Part 1” Review

Season 7 Episode 10 – Iris is pushed to the limit as she seeks to uncover the mysterious truth about Psych; Barry initiates a new training system that could potentially backfire; Joe and Cisco make life-altering decisions.

What I Liked

1. Psych is such a creepy guy! Every time he is on the screen even I get a little nervous. Even without his mask, he’s quite a sarcastic character, which I’m always here for.

2. Alexa is now able to control her powers and work with the Strength Force, and Psych has finally been talked down. This is making me look forward to when all the forces do finally come together!

3. Joe’s exit from the police force made such a statement. As he says heading out the door “I’m staying on the right side of the line”. Honestly, it is about time and I’m glad to see this change.

4. Nora’s entrance right at the end made quite the impact. While we have to wait until next week to see what damage she has actually done, first look it appears she has just killed Alexa, Psych, and Iris, but I’m not sure that’s totally realistic. Either way what she did has got us eager to see next week’s episode.

What I Disliked

1. Multiple missed opportunities for Barry to use his speed, again. Psych attacks him and he is immediately put down and doesn’t get back up. Alexa turns into the Strength Force and he isn’t able to stop her, Psych attacks again and Alexa has to save him? I get you can’t win every time but come on.

2. Why does the show keep leaving the main characters completely out of it with no explanation? It’s happened with Cisco on multiple occasions and now Chester.

3. The CGI was absolutely horrific during the scene with Psych, Barry, and Alexa. I can’t even really expand on that, it was just horrendous.

Favourite Moment

The entire last 10 minutes go down here, as everything slotted together in there, especially the Psych and Alexa scenes. I put this entire 10-minute segment here because to be fair, it’s the only part of the episode I really enjoyed.

Standout Character

I’m going to give the standout to Alexa this week. She advanced quite far with her abilities and came to terms with what was happening to her. Despite not being trained she chose to go with Barry to confront Psych so I have to give some form of respect there.

Verdict

A very slow start to the episode, the final 10 minutes was what gave the episode any form of rating. But I do get where they are going with the story and I am looking forward to watching it play out.
