We have received two full AAA games for the popular Injustice series made by NetherRealm Studios. The first game was great, but the second one was just even better.
The amount of effort they put into the number of heroes and villains was astounding, especially the ability to customize them to your exact liking. It was impressive, to say the least.
Even the story was fantastic, giving choice elements throughout so not only giving you the ability to customize your favorite characters, but also deciding on aspects of the actual story itself.
I played this with one of my best friends, we would sit in a party for hours showing off what we managed to do with our favorite characters, it was just an amazing experience.
There have been rumours that NetherRealm has signed on to do an Avengers vs. X-Men type of game in the past, but those rumours are to be taken with the smallest pinch of salt you can possibly imagine.
So onto my question, could it work? I definitely think so.
What NetherRealm did so well with Injustice 2 was the choice of characters albeit if the DLC choices were questionable. By giving them the catalog of Marvel’s characters could work so well.
I don’t believe it should follow the story Injustice went down, but I definitely think it should be just as gritty and as dark as that particular series was.
I’d love nothing more than to completely customise Iron Man’s suits from the helmet, to the leg pieces.
All in all, it could definitely work, after all, DC’s catalog worked incredibly well. Another part to mention here is the end game side of things with Injustice was actually fairly decent.
They created the multiverse which would refresh every few hours, or have weekly events on so it was always freshening up. Even at times having challenges and the chance to unlock gear for a specific character.
Marvel has the exact same potential as long as it’s done right. I’m not usually a fan of these types of fighting games, but it’s different when it’s something I have a strong passion for.
I don’t have much hope for NetherRealm creating a Marvel version any time soon, especially considering it’s highly likely they’re developing Injustice 3 as we speak, and I believe at DC FanDome 2 we’ll see that.
