Out of nowhere, Marvel Studios decided to release a brand new trailer for their upcoming animated Disney+ series “What If…?”.
Along with a new trailer, Marvel Studios also released a brand new poster to go along with the trailer, the poster which actually looks fairly nice, has a couple of hints of what we’ll see throughout the first season of the show.
While some reactions to the trailer have been great, there are some negative reactions to the trailer. While there is always bad with the good, I’m personally sat on the border of good and bad.
Will the series be great? Definitely. Will it live up to a series like Loki or The Falcon and the Winter Soldier? I don’t believe it will.
While I had all the excitement and hype for this series when it was first announced, a few things in this one trailer alone has kind of knocked my excitement and hype down for the upcoming animated series.
One of my negatives is the voice-over work, while some actors did return to record new dialogue for the series, a few key bits, for example, in the beginning, Robert Downey Jr’s voice was a snippet from the movie and it didn’t truly fit with the animation.
Another part was the animation itself, while in some shots it looked absolutely incredible, in many other shots it actually looks bad, maybe I’m judging too harshly but I’ll see if this changes once I get to see another trailer or even if the first episode changes my opinion on this.
While I did have some negative feelings and thoughts, I did get excited for a few parts of the trailer, Chadwick Boseman’s Starlord, Marvel Zombies, and the Erik Killmonger and Tony Stark friendship at the beginning.
Will I check this series out? Definitely. Does it have a lot of room for improvement? 100%.
The first season is scheduled to premiere on August 11, 2021, and will consist of 10 episodes. The series will also be part of the Phase Four portion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has already been reportedly renewed for a season 2.
