DC, and Marvel as of late have been on an absolute rampage recently. Cancelling shows that maybe did or did not deserve the boot. Today, we take a look at the shows currently airing that will likely be ending very soon.
Let’s think about it. DC recently cancelled Krypton, and Swamp Thing after strong seasons. Marvel cancelled Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Punisher. Marvel, Netflix it really makes no difference. All of which had strong final seasons setting future plots up (except Jessica Jones, that was awful).
Pennyworth
First up, is Pennyworth. While Alfred’s James Bond spy style series is actually pretty incredible. I don’t think it’s possible it will be renewed for a second season. Looking at ratings, the show is DC’s least performing show at the moment. Plus, we all know how it ends anyway. It’s not like Gotham where we eagerly await the ending with Bruce suiting up.
Cloak & Dagger
I think at this point we can all agree, anything that is not due for Disney+ is in the pecking order for cancellation. Personally, I never saw Cloak & Dagger season 2, but I saw the first. It was slow, but had some very interesting plot twists. More importantly, they are in the same universe as The Defenders, which for me, puts them at the top of the list for being cancelled. Maybe even before season 3.
The Runaways
Another show from Marvel not on Disney+. According to several news reports, and sources, The Runaways had a poor season 2 in viewership. It never really performed incredibly in terms of numbers. I think the fact Marvel’s series are split across Prime, Hulu, and Netflix is in sour taste. Disney+ is bringing their own series to the table, and I think sadly, the Runaways season 3 will be the last.
