Star Wars: The Bad Batch “Rescue on Ryloth” Review

Season 1 Episode 12 “The Batch is tasked with a dangerous mission.”

What I Liked?

1. The episode begins with Admiral Rampart asking and beginning a search for Hera Syndulla. He questions her parents as to her whereabouts, but they refuse, I loved the beginning of this episode because while the Admiral was questioning the prisoners, you could see in the background that Clonetrooper Howzer was simply beginning to question The Empire, their motives, he mentions this to the admiral but immediately gets shut down, I wonder if this is because Order 66 happened a little while ago and the effects are wearing off?

2. The Squad arrives on Ryloth to help Hera, initially, the Squad refuses to help her until Omega and Hera come up with a plan of attack, this is where we get to see Hunter use one of his enhancements, feeling the electricity from droids from a long distance and we see him take down a probe droid, although too late because Crosshair finds out they are on the planet.

3. This next point simply reminded me of a Rebels episode, we get to see Chopper sneak into the mining facility, although he gets caught, leaving Omega and Hera to steal a ship and destroy the control panel taking the canons offline to give room for Tech and Wrecker to fly in and destroy the canons, while the Empire scrambles to go fight at the facility, Crosshair realizes that this isn’t the real target is, the Syndulla’s are, so Crosshair sets up a trap, although Howzer stops this and informs Hunter and Echo about it. Another moment where Howzer refuses anything to do with Order 66, is very interesting.

What I Disliked?

Nothing to report.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment came from Howzer towards the end of the episode, he literally saves Hunter, Echo, and the Syndulla’s, he then tells them of another escape route, he then walks into the trap set by Crosshair, and speaks with his squad, he tells them that they came here to help the people of Ryloth and now they are taking them as prisoners, he then asks who’s with him and throws down his weapon, a few Clones do, but Crosshair calls them traitors and arrests them, this was huge by Howzer simply because this is basically a death sentence for disobeying orders.

Standout Character

I have to give this to Howzer, he essentially sacrificed himself to receive a death sentence for willingly helping the Syndulla’s and The Bad Batch.

The Verdict

A solid finale to the origins of Hera Syndulla, I believe we’ll see her again with Omega, however, this episode delivered so amazing action and some great scenes and showcased that maybe the effects of Order 66 actually can wear off after a period of time.
