Michael B. Jordan Developing A HBO Max Project Featuring Val-Zod

Michael B. Jordan and his production company Outlier Society are reportedly developing their own black Superman project for HBO Max that will be focused on the Val-Zod version of Superman, according to Collider.

While a writer is currently working on a script for the Val-Zod focused limited series, nothing else is truly known about the project.

Sources say that Outlier Society has hired a writer who is currently working on the script, though the writer’s name is unknown. Thought it was initially unclear that the Val-Zod project would be a movie or a limited series, sources have reached out to Collider to provide an update and has confirmed it’s writing as a limited series that Jordan will produce and rumored to even star in, although he’s yet to officially sign on to star.

This has marked the second black Superman to be announced in a matter of months, first, it was reported that J.J. Abrams and his company Bad Robot are set to produce a black Superman movie for Warner Bros. that is expected to follow the Kal-El/Clark Kent version of the Superman character.

Although traditionally, Clark Kent is always depicted as white in the DC Comics, this movie which J.J. Abrams is producing will be race-swapping Clark Kent and will be casting a black actor in the movie, which is also likely to be directed by a black director while Ta-Nehisi Coates is currently at work writing the script.

Rumors also suggest that Jordan wasn’t a fan of the idea of racebending the character of Clark Kent, the same reason as fans currently pushing back on Warner Bros. current plans to re-imagine Clark Kent as black when there is two perfectly great black Superman already established in the comics, so why not bring them to live-action?

Jordan has always stated that he wants to do a project featuring a black Superman and now he’s finally getting that chance, for me personally, I’m more than excited to see what Jordan does with the character of Val-Zod, and I hope he stars in the role as well.
