So far, in the pipeline, DC has 6 movies coming out. I will take a look at each one individually, explain my thoughts and also give you a 1-10 rating dependant on my current excitement. Obviously, before you get into this, please do note that all of this is just my own personal opinion, and I understand some people will agree or disagree, but this is what it’s all about.
Let’s get into it, from the soonest release to the one that’s furthest away.
1. The Suicide Squad (2021)
I am not going to lie, this is a movie that initially I just didn’t care for. I didn’t care for the original, so why would I care for this? Well, my fellow writer, Phil Weaver has somehow made me super excited for this film. I think what helps, even more, is one of my favorite Directors in James Gunn is behind everything, so I know the project is going to be well looked after and in capable hands.
I like the idea that the film is still progressing and not just a full reboot, more of a super soft reboot with some amazing cast choices in the movie. Especially John Cena as Peacemaker, we’re also getting some incredible characters like King Shark, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, and many more. I think we’re in for one incredible ride with this, and what’s even better, as of now it’s only 5 days away from release!
Excitement: 9/10
2. The Batman (2022)
This is one of my most anticipated movies. The Batman is expected to be with us on March 4th, 2022, and will feature a brand new Batman in Robert Pattinson. I think, for me personally, this is why I’m excited above all else. Well before Pattinson was cast as Bruce, I remember stating that I believe Pattinson would be a perfect Batman. Everybody laughed at me, then BossLogic released teases, and then he was cast.
I understand people have doubts over Pattinson because of his roles in Twilight, but I think he’s going to be incredible. Matt Reeves has a vision for the future of Batman, and I trust him to be making the right decisions, and I truly believe that Pattinson is going to nail the role, especially knowing this will be in the first year of Batman’s vigilante career. We got a first look trailer at DC’s FanDome last year, and even then the movie was barely filmed and it still looked absolutely exceptional. You can see the trailer below.
Excitement: 10/10
3. The Flash (2022)
The Flash is expected to be with us in late 2022, November 4th is penciled in. I am looking forward to The Flash, more now than I was prior to Zack Snyder’s Justice League. There are a couple of let down moments for me that did bench my excitement, mainly in the fact that Ray Fisher was fired from his role in the movie as Cyborg, and also the fact that I feel like The CW did this story perfectly, and it will be difficult to live up to.
However, what I am excited about is Ezra Miller finally getting the full feature-length movie he deserves. We are known to be getting a Flashpoint version of the comics, and we will be seeing Michael Keaton suit up once again as Batman. These are points that are tough to ignore, and I truly believe the movie will showcase this in perfect light, given the budget the film will have. I just hope that they can do justice without Ray Fisher being involved. It is also rumored that The CW’s Flash, Grant Gustin will also cameo in the movie, just like Ezra did a cameo in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Excitement: 8/10
4. Black Adam (2022)
The movie that’s been announced for so long, is finally going to see the light of day. We were worried at one point that the film will likely be canceled, but then DC FanDome officially announced the movie is happening. Dwayne Johnson has been cast as Black Adam for years, and now filming is underway which is fantastic news.
As of now, we know the movie is coming in 2022 but we have no definitive release date yet, but we do know with Johnson’s track record, this movie is going to be fantastic. I do also believe that they have a perfect cast with Dwayne and Black Adam. My only worry is that because of how highly sought after The Rock is, sequels will have a number of years between them. I do also think this is going to be one of the best movies in 2022.
Excitement: 9/10
5. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2022)
The first Aquaman was a good movie, I enjoyed it, and Jason Mamoa is a fantastic Arthur Curry. The movie is currently filming as we speak now, and we’re expected to get the sequel at some point in 2022. As of now, we don’t have a lot of news surrounding the film, but for me personally, I am struggling to get excited for this movie at all.
I think this is down to specific cast choices. Now, I know it’s an innocent until proven guilty aspect, but Depp lost some iconic roles in Jack Sparrow and Grindelwald, and I find it unfair that Amber Heard is still going ahead with this. It’s a touchy subject, and as mentioned it is my own opinion but for this reason alone, I can’t get excited about the movie at all.
Excitement: 3/10
6. Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
The first Shazam! came out shortly before Avengers: Endgame in 2019, and the Box Office figures were likely undeservingly affected by this. Shazam! is one of my all-time favorite movies, as it just features everything we love, plus, both sides of Billy Batson were done perfectly by Zachary Levi and Asher Angel, both returning for the sequel. The end of the first movie introduced us to the Shazam family, and it looks as though the sequel will be centered around them.
Shazam is fun, light-hearted but brutal all at the same time and balances it very well. This is the movie I am most excited for out of all superhero content coming out in the next couple of years, and that includes Marvel as well. The details of the plot are still unknown with the movie still being 2 years away, but I suspect we will see some news at the upcoming DC FanDome 2 event.
