A few months back it was reported that Warner Bros and DC Comics were working on a Blue Beetle movie, with the main focus being on the Jaime Reyes iteration of the character.
Angel Manuel Soto was brought in early in development to direct the Latino superhero in his first movie outing, with Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer writing the script for the upcoming movie.
Well, as officially 4 hours ago, Xolo Mariduena announced on his Instagram page, it is official, he is Jaime Reyes, the Blue Beetle.
The Suicide Squad premiere was held last night, Angel Manuel Soto appeared on the red carpet and had a guest with him, Xolo. It was then announced that he was in talks to star in the Blue Beetle movie.
The project is expected to head into production in early 2022 and will premiere exclusively on HBO Max similar to how the recent Batgirl movie was announced to also be HBO Max exclusive.
While many are excited for the first DC film to center on a Latino superhero, many fans are angry at the fact that the first movie will be a streaming service exclusive and that DC and Warner Bros are not pushing for a theater release.
