Dominique Thorne has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel to Black Panther. She will of course be playing Riri Williams aka Ironheart in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thorne had previously been revealed as the main character for the self-titled Ironheart Disney+ series in the near future.
Kevin Feige has confirmed to Comicbook.com that Thorne will indeed make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” movie.
Kevin Feige said in an interview surrounding the release of Shang-Chi “We’re shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first”, then stated, “She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series.”
In the comics, Riri Williams is a teen-aged engineering genius who designs her own version of an Iron Man suit. Following the death of her father, she lives with her mother and her aunt in Chicago, at 15 years old, she gets accepted into MIT. It is there she builds her own version of an Iron Man-style armor. She then uses the armor to stop two escaped prison inmates.
Tony Stark later reaches out to her and gives her his blessing to become a new, armored hero, although yet remains to be seen if Robert Downey Jr. or Tony Stark will be part of the character’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward.
