Agatha All Along “Death’s Hand in Mine” Review

Season 1 Episode 7 – Those remaining suffer the hand they are dealt in the next trial.

What I Liked

1. Damn, Kathryn Harkness could definitely pull off the Wicked Witch of the West. She looks incredible!

2. This tarot card task reminds me of the Midnight Suns game which this show has done a few times now. Within that game, you have to collect specific tarot cards which is where the reminder comes in. Lilia has to step in for the next trial as it’s centred around the cards and she has to give a reading to Billy. It’s been a bit poor leading up to this but I do like this simply because it’s intriguing.

3. After the trial is complete and the door opens, Lilia ushers the group out the door to stay behind. She even manages to kill the Seven who were chasing them. It was a sad moment to see Lilia come to her end but I guess this was to be expected with how Agatha’s last walk on the Witch’s Road went.

What I Disliked

There are many reviews out there claiming this was the best episode of the series but I have to disagree. I may be in the minority but I found this episode incredibly confusing with very little understanding. Even after Lilia’s death, I’m still struggling to comprehend what happened prior. I don’t know, the episode was alright but again, we’re 2 episodes left with the show to fully get to the point.

Favorite Moment

Lilia realizes that it’s not Billy she needs to read, it’s herself. This stops the swords from falling from the ceiling. Once she realizes this is how the trial is, it becomes quite intense as the ceiling continues to lower. It felt like this moment was for Lilia, she was ready to go and knew what she had to do. This was perhaps the best moment in the episode for me.

Standout Character

This was Lilia’s moment to stand out and shine, she did exactly that. Despite being utterly confused throughout the entire episode, I did enjoy the way they gave Lilia her moments and she stood out above all else here. It’s going to be a shame that we’re likely not going to see her again after this.

Verdict

It’s a tough one here because whilst I did like the episode, I didn’t have a clue as to what was going on most of the time and that took it away for me. I loved Lillia’s sacrifice to get the rest of the coven on their way but I feel like this episode is still pulling us back from getting to the point. I’m struggling now to stay engaged because I know there are only 2 episodes left. We have 2 episodes to truly get this show going and I feel like they’re not going to do that until the finale.
