Season 8 Episode 9 “In the year 2040, Mia Queen has everything she could have ever wanted — until Laurel and Dinah suddenly show up in her life again and things take a shocking turn; Laurel and Dinah track a kidnapping victim who has direct ties to Mia.”
What I Liked
01. It’s nice to see the Queen mansion back again. Brings back those season 1 vibes.
02. Finally, Laurel touches Mia and she remembers everything. Whilst I’m still confused, I’m glad the original “timeline” is technically still intact, and everything that happened, actually happened.
03. Incredible to see Laurel and Dinah finally getting along and fighting alongside each other without some weird agenda in the background. The double cry was great. A solid mini-fight!
04. After the big fight scene, the building blows up. The CGI was actually very good considering some of the CW shows’ CGI this season.
05. They made JJ remember, which is good. However, I really wish they had of done Connor at least. I feel like the shows done him so dirty. However, we are a step closer to getting our “character development” back.
What I Disliked
01. The point I’m adding this, I’m not far into the episode. However, one lingering question is; why is Zoe there? (Answered later in the episode but still annoyed me) She’s dead. It doesn’t make sense at all. We’ve been receiving flash forwards for well over a year, and now it’s making me think, were they even worth it? Everything they went through is different. I’m unsure if it’s because of Crisis, or what, but it’s really made those flash forward scenes worthless. Granted, we got character development, but story development was an absolute waste.
02. Character development was completely wasted. We all watched the flash forwards for the previous year or so, granted, they were boring. More importantly they did begin to get interesting when Zoe died. I feel like all of that is completely wasted. We had these characters built in a specific way so we just came to know, and love them, and I feel like they’ve thrown that out of the window here.
03. The episode raised far too many questions with not many answers. While granted, I understand they need to create that hype for the series going forward. However, the biggest question here is; what the hell is going on?! Why is it like this? Crisis cannot be the answer here, because nobody knew each other – and everyone else’s story remained the same. I am looking forward to the series, but this should have been told slightly different.
04. So, Cisco can make Martian tech? Give over. I understand Cisco is a technical mastermind but why does everything have to fall on his “creations”? Has he cured any known illnesses yet?
Favourite Moment
The fight scene near the end was epic. It showed us great chemistry between the three, and showed they’re all equally as important. Amazing scene!
Standout Character
Laurel. No question. She’s the literal cross between Siren and the Canary. Witty comments throughout, but serious when she needs to be. I’m glad she’s getting the series more focused on her, she has been one of the best parts of Arrow as a whole.
Verdict
Over critical this episode. It has potential, absolutely. I just feel like everything we watched in the flash forwards was a waste of time. It changed toward the end of the episode which is a positive in itself. I am excited to see where this show goes.
