Arrow “Reset” Review

Season 8 Episode 6 “Oliver is faced with a life-or-death situation after being double-crossed by Lyla; Laurel has an opportunity to make amends.”

What I Liked

1. I’m absolutely loving the returns every episode. This week, we see the return of Quentin Lance. You quickly realise whatever reality Oliver is in, is not reality. However, it is so nice to see Lance again.

2. Quentin, and Oliver investigate a hostage situation at SCPD. What looks like a suicide bomber from one of the hostages, it explodes and Oliver wakes up again at 6:27am, just like the beginning of the episode. A bit like Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow movie. Shoutout to Laurel actually referencing the movie!

3. The nightmarish issue when it comes to these types of storylines, is nobody believes the person going through it. It’s predictable. This time Quentin just, straight up believes Oliver.

4. Laurel seems to be going through the same time loop Oliver is going through. Going off the synopsis of the episode, this seems to be how she has the opportunity to make amends.

5. The fact that Laurel knows the whole situation isn’t real, when Quentin is shot and dying, again, it’s incredibly emotional. More like a final goodbye. The goodbye that we really needed.

6. I’m not crying. You are. The scene when Oliver just let’s Quentin go with Renee, that was incredibly emotional. In seems, his “test” here, was he can’t save everybody, and you can’t change fate.

7. Back to Lian Yu next week. That will be a good episode to look forward too. Who can we expect to return? My money’s on Slade.

What I Disliked

1. So, Lyla is behind this all Edge of Tomorrow time loop thing. She’s always been a character I have never liked, however this entire ark with her is just, meh.

2. Oliver is struggling with the time loop. He’s lived through this multiple times already. So far, he’s only called on the help of Laurel. Yet, he hasn’t really called on anybody else to help him. Especially Mia, William, or Connor who he see’s at the beginning of every time loop.

Favourite Moment

Oliver, and Quentin fighting through after Laurel’s “quest” is over was incredible. Oliver protecting Lance the way he was, was just breathtaking. You could sense the struggle, especially of not having enough arrows to continue. Even more so, struggling with the fact he will have to live through the time loop over and over again.

Standout Character

Oliver Queen was really one of the only ones that could deserve it this week. Although that’s not an issue, he was fantastic this week. Emotions, a sense of struggle, incredible fighting, and so much more. Oliver was truly incredible this week.

Verdict

Arrow just continues to be amazing. The season thus far is on par, or better than season 1. It brings so much emotional connections into the fold consistently. It’s difficult to comprehend the matter that the series will be coming to an end in 4 more episodes.

Rating 9.6/10
