Obviously, take this with a grain of salt but early reports from Collider and Cinelinx state that a Black Canary movie is in early development for HBO Max.
Misha Green is slated to be reteaming with Jurnee Smollett for the upcoming Black Canary movie.
Jurnee will reprise her role as Dinah Lance aka The Black Canary, first introduced in last year’s Birds of Prey movie. The character was depicted as a burlesque singer rescuing Harley Quinn, who later works for Black Mask but ultimately betrays him and forms the Birds of Prey.
Sue Kroll will produce the Black Canary movie under her Kroll & Co. Entertainment banner, having also produced Birds of Prey.
It’s unknown whether Misha Green will direct as well as write the script for the Black Canary movie. While the movie is also stated to be in the bunch of content for HBO Max along with Batgirl and Blue Beetle.
Both Green and Smollett have said they would like to further explore the character of Black Canary while doing press for Lovecraft Country before it’s untimely cancellation.
