Season 3 Episode 2 “With Freeland under occupation, the Pierce family gets pulled in different directions; Jefferson and Lynn are at odds with each other; Jennifer feels powerless despite having powers.”
What Was Good?
1. The ASA agent Odell gets an encrypted message from the President warning him about a large scale invasion by the Markovians. The teases we have got about the Markovians have got me excited.. I just want to see a all out war between the Markovians, The ASA agents, meta’s and citizens of Freeland.
2. Another showdown I’d like to see is Jefferson against this Commander Williams and we get a hint of it this episode when Jefferson and Williams don’t see eye to eye. They are both meta’s and williams can copy any meta’s powers so it will be such a good fight especially with Jeffersons powers increasing.
3. Blackbird is still feeling the effects of being hit by a grenade and you can see this throughout the episode. She’s still traveling with the meta’s outside of the Freeland boarder.
Gambi warns her that the Markovians are patrolling the boarder looking for a weakness and that they could find the camp where the meta’s are staying for now. Blackbird takes down every Markovian stealthy which causes the commander of the Markovians to initiate phase 2.
4. Gambi is using the face changing tech to meet with the police chief to get him to help Gambi so the police chief causes a distraction while Gambi sneaks in the ASA army HQ and steals some data and a way to make a phone call to outside of the boarder.
What Was Bad?
1. I don’t know what I think of the ASA. One minute there helping and the next they are running ruthless tests on a meta which causes her to love her hair and cry blood. I’m surprised the ASA have been in the series this long.
2. This episode we get warned or teased about a large scale invasion by the Markovians which sort of happens this episode. We see multiple vans of Markovian soldiers and there must of been about 50 of them. I hope this isn’t all of the Markovians we’ll see this season.
Holy Shit Moment
1. Blackbird is seeing the meta’s eat food and be safe but the people who made the deal is getting on Blackbirds case so Blackbird threatens them and beats up there guards.
2. Latavius is getting the 100 gang back to work and when the new “leader” comes he instantly shoots Latavius 3 times in the chest and makes sure he’s dead by putting a bullet in his head.. however Latavius can not die so he heals back up reclaiming his throne.
3. Now for the biggest holy shit moment that most likely will happen this entire season… Khalil wakes up out of his pod. We find that Odell and Williams has planted a chip in his brain which has made Khalil or Painkiller as he’s known be some sort of assassin for the ASA. Odell orders a test run assassination where he sets Khalil a target… Khalil’s own mother. Khalil goes and carries the assassination out.
The Verdict
While the episode has had great moments the lack of Black Lightning is starting to bore me… however Blackbird and the introduction to a ruthless Painkiller has peaked my interest. I hope we get to see Jefferson go full Black Lightning again soon.
