I think just over 10 years ago when Channing Tatum was first cast in the role of Gambit, people wrote him off, and have done for many years. Channing was meant to be in a few of the X-Men movies and then eventually break off to have his own “origins” movie similar to Wolverine.
Obviously, over the years many issues arose behind the scenes from directors, scripts, management, and more would obviously play a major factor in why the film was not made, even though we saw Channing join the cast of X-Men at San Diego Comic-Con.
Over the years, Channing has spoken about his love for Gambit, his love for the movie in many interviews and continued to hope he would eventually play that character he loves so much. Well, spoiler alert, it happened.
If you didn’t see Deadpool & Wolverine or have stayed off social media, Channing has finally debuted as Gambit in that movie.
Now, when I saw this debut in the theater I was absolutely overwhelmed with joy as I’ve been a massive Gambit fan for life and I’m a huge Channing Tatum fan. It finally happened. Coming out of the theater and days later, Channing was still a massive talking point for people.
Channing spoke about the movie “I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But [Ryan Reynolds] fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya buddy … Truly such a brilliant creator on every single level. All things happen for a reason. I’m so grateful to be in this movie. It’s a masterpiece in my opinion. And just pure bad ass joy. I was literally screaming in the theater”
People absolutely loved him and loved his portrayal and his dialogue. Currently, as of writing this, Gambit is going viral for many sayings on X and TikTok. The reaction has been very much positive and has screamed that he deserves a film.
My hope is that coming away from the film shows Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios people want more of Gambit. Now, there is a theory going around that at the end of the movie, we see Gambit in the same universe as Deadpool and Wolverine…
So could it finally happen? Could Channing receive his own Gambit movie finally?
