Potentially a new series on the site, over however many articles we do for this series, we do our best to explain a character, why they stand out and what makes us a fan, and said character’s best moment for us. There were a few characters I wanted to start this series off with, Anakin, Luke, Iron Man, The Flash (Barry Allen), and many more, but I’ve recently been on a Star Wars binge and thought I’d begin with Obi-Wan.
Short Bio
Obi-Wan Kenobi was a Force-sensitive human male Jedi Master who served on the Jedi High Council during the last years of the Republic Era. Over the course of those years, we saw him do countless missions, battles, and Jedi training to become the legendary Jedi he is known for.
After the rise of the Galactic Empire, Obi-Wan lived in solitude on Tatooine under the name “Ben Kenobi” to keep watch over Luke Skywalker and to hide from the Empire.
Why He Stands Out?
Obi-Wan was a legendary Jedi as mentioned in his short bio, he was tactful, smart, cunning, and very laid back compared to a Jedi like Anakin. He would always plan his missions, battles, and duels with precision, strategic movements, and ways to end the battle quickly.
Although he wasn’t always wise like how we got to see him in the live-action movies or the animated Clone Wars series, as a youngling, Kenobi was known to be rebellious and willful, he would break the rules laid out by the Jedi, however, throughout much of his apprenticeship to Qui-Gon Jinn, he learned to have a strong fondness of the rules and a largely by-the-book attitude came with it.
What Makes Us a Fan?
Throughout the live-action movies and the Clone Wars series, we saw the highs and lows of Obi-Wan, losing his master Qui-Gon in a duel with Darth Maul, losing his love Satine Kryze, becoming Anakin’s master when he was barely a master himself, then losing many Clones in the war.
The major thing we got to see was Obi-Wan lose Anakin to the Dark Side and fall under an apprenticeship to Emperor Palpatine and having to duel and severely hurt Anakin, almost believing he killed him and left him to burn on Mustafar, only to find out that Anakin survived and is now Darth Vader.
All this loss and anger and never once turned to the Dark Side of the Force, he stayed loyal to the Republic and stayed on the Light Side of the Force, this is what made Obi-Wan a standout Jedi for me personally.
Characters Best Moment
Obi-Wan has had countless fantastic moments, I could name anything in this section, surviving a Sith and “killing” Maul, anything in The Clone Wars, or the duel with Anakin on Mustafar, but deep down, I have to say my best Obi-Wan moment was seeing Qui-Gon die, then taking his idea of Anakin being the Chosen One and training him, standing up to the Jedi Council like Qui-Gon would have done, this showed so much character development.
