Comic Character Showcase #3 – Quinlan Vos

Short Bio

Quinlan Vos was a male Kiffar Jedi Master who lived during the final days of the Galactic Republic. He was from the planet Kiffu, he was also a maverick within the Jedi Order and gathered a reputation for bending the rules. He was mostly known for his retrocognition – perceiving others’ memories when touching objects they had contacted. Due to this ability, Quinlan Vos was an expert tracker, with many of his missions taking him into the criminal underworld in the Star Wars Universe.

Why He Stands Out

While he wasn’t a prominently featured Jedi in any of the Skywalker Saga movies, Quinlan Vos stands out for me because of his missions, his powers, and just how much of a badass character he is. He’s always undercover while being on the Dark Side.

While we got to see him in The Clones Wars on a mission with fellow Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi, he was a stand out in that mission, using his powers and abilities to track the Bounty Hunter Cad Bane and Ziro The Hutt.

What Makes Us A Fan?

What truly makes me a fan of Quinlan Vos is how he was introduced to the universe of Star Wars. Originally, he was only a background extra in the Star Wars – The Phantom Menace film, in the background on Tatooine in the streets of Mos Espa.

The character was created by author John Ostrander and artist Jan Duursema based purely on this design in the background of the movie. His name is also a hint to Qui-Gon Jinn’s name, as Ostrander wanted a name with the same number of syllables. Vos then prominently appears in a number of Star Wars Legends stories, including Star Wars: Republic.

Character’s Best Moment

For me, his best moment was the Jedi Council assigning Vos to an undercover mission to get close to Sith Lord Count Dooku and assassinate him. This is where he encounters Ventress, Dooku’s once personal assassin turned bounty hunter. Ventress’s hatred of Dooku far outweighed her hatred of the Jedi so she teamed up with Vos and convinced him to be taught the ways of the Dark Side without letting it completely take over him.

For me, Quinlan Vos is a great character and one I hope we eventually see in the live-action form once again and not in a cameo way, give us a major role for this character, I and thousands of other Star Wars fans want to see him appear in live-action.
