Comic Shows Ranked Worst to Best in 2020

If there was one episode at least released in 2020, it will make this list and we will rank it based on the season as a whole.

PLEASE NOTE; we are purely ranking the seasons that we reviewed throughout 2020. If a season or series doesn’t make this list then it means we don’t review the show.

We will also show you our average rating across the season, but our decisions will be based on the seasons alone and not the rating.

12. Legends of Tomorrow (Season 5)

Average rating – 6.6/10

Legends of Tomorrow is a weird show, well after season 2 it became weird. It is one of those shows that some people really love, but some people absolutely hate it, I’m currently mixed, although leaning more towards disliking it.

The shows last season wasn’t great by any means. The episodes were boring, the action was decent and the show just headed in a stupid direction. While the show did have good moments, behind the scenes showrunners made stupid mistakes like having Brandon Routh leave the show while the character that he played, Ray still had potential and even more so, Brandon had insane potential to carry on as Superman from the Kingdom Come universe.

11. Doom Patrol (Season 2)

Average rating – 7.7/10

A show that everybody seems to absolutely love except us? I don’t know if we’re watching the show wrong, and I’ve explained my reasons many times as to why I struggle to love the show. You can read our thoughts here and even let me know if I’ve got anything wrong. For me, the season was boring. It had a lack of action with next to zero character development going forward. I still struggle with Cyborg, the actors amazing but the suit is honestly concerning.

I can understand why people love the show, and I never knock anybody who does. However, we have tried multiple times to find the positives in the show, especially when we’re doing reviews but it’s one we really struggle with, hence the reason why it’s so far down on this list.

10. Supergirl (Season 5)

Average rating – 8.4/10

When I was calculating the averages, I have got to admit, I was surprised to see an 8.4. Unfortunately, I don’t believe this reflects that, and this was just a straight-up poor season. It seems to be the running theme for Supergirl, considering the first 2 or 3 seasons were super strong (pun intended).

It becomes too heavily involved in political aspects which doesn’t work, especially when you have one of the most powerful superheroes of all time there. Thankfully the DEO looks as if it’s finally gone, and the final season of Supergirl can hopefully shine once again. It is a shame the show is coming to an end, but I can understand why.

9. Black Lightning (Season 3)

Average rating – 7.6/10

Now Black Lightning isn’t on the same level as Legends of Tomorrow but Black Lightning did have its bad episodes throughout the third season for the show. While it did deliver some incredible action scenes, most of the story was boring and insanely dragged out.

I will say I am actually disappointed that The CW has indeed decided to cancel the show after the fourth season. I don’t think the cast deserve that. While the season was rocky, it did really pick up towards the end of the season and finally headed in the right direction, I think given the chance, in 2-3 more seasons this show would of became so incredible and one of the most talked-about DC shows.

8. Batwoman (Season 1)

Average rating 8.7/10

Batwoman was very much a season that had its very high moments, but also it’s very low moments which is why it comes to an average rating of 8.7. A lot of the filler episodes were very irrelevant and did not add much value to the story, they could very easily just be forgotten.

However, saying that the story of Alice for me was incredible. Her backstory was intriguing, her reveal shocked the viewers, and her constant change of actions and behaviours always kept us on edge. I’d say her villainous ways was what kept the season in our good rankings.

7. The Flash (Season 6)

Average rating 8.9/10

The Flash was, unfortunately, a show that was affected by the COVID pandemic, and subsequently had to finish early due to this. However, even after an 8.9 average, the series was pretty average this season. Nothing really felt in place, and for us, it was definitely a forgettable season.

Despite the untimely ending to the season, next season will feel the benefit of both the ending of season 6 plus the new stories going forward so I do believe The Flash is going to be one of the top shows next year when the new season premieres in January 2021.

6. Umbrella Academy (Season 2)

*Show was not released episodically*

Umbrella Academy An extremely enjoyable second season, mixing things up in such a good way. Especially now the entire family is stuck in the 1960s, and they’re all living different, dysfunctional lives as per usual. It was a damn good show.

We put this 6th, and it was a tough year because there was quite a number of shows that did so well. We’re excited for the third season, considering this was given a solid 10/10 in the season review which you can see here.

We’re also super excited to see Elliot Page return after her fantastic news recently!

5. Arrow (Season 8)

Average rating 9.5/10

Arrow had a strong ending, but the season was run on the shorter end with 10 episodes, but what the showrunners did so well was that each episode was super interesting as it built up to popular Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

What made this season so special, was that we became to love so many characters over the years, and we got so many returns in many different ways. It was a special ending to a show that brought me into the Arrowverse, and Stephen Amell’s version of the Green Arrow remains as one of my all-time favourite superheroes.

4. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Season 7)

Average rating 8.8/10

Agents of SHIELD surprisingly was a standout season, especially for the show like this, full of, I wouldn’t say humour but did have a lot of funny moments, yet serious moments in the previous season.

However, the seventh season for the show started with a bang and each episode continued that all the way to the final episode when the show linked up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe by using the same tech as Ant-Man. The season was great overall.

3. Stargirl (Season 1)

Average rating 10/10

I will be honest, this was a show I had no interest with. I never cared when it was announced or even remotely found it interesting. Of course, I decided to switch on when the Pilot aired and was on review duty regardless. I have to admit, this was certainly the underdog in terms of our review category.

Every single episode blew us away that little bit more, and before we knew it we had given 4 episodes a 10/10. A perfect rating that only Mandalorian had done before hand. Each episode got better, and it became a show that we just loved. It’s crazy to think that before hand we never really cared, to it now becoming one of our most loved shows of all time. Season 2 cannot come quick enough!

2. The Boys (Season 2)

Average rating 9.1/10

The Boys continued their great run from Season 1 however, they turned the brutal-ness up to 11 for the entire season. We got more Psycho Homelander which was perfect. The action was insanely great as well.

The season also delivered so heartfelt moments for some characters, like Hughie. It was also a standout season for Starlight. I was amazed with each episode, it continued to get better and better.

1. The Mandalorian (Season 2)

Average rating 10/10

There isn’t much to say about The Mandalorian over than it was the perfect show. It delivered perfect episode after episode, it gave us badass moments and debuted some even more badass characters from Bo-Katan to Ahsoka. THEY EVEN GAVE US LUKE SKYWALKER.

Even though the show was perfect, it didn’t stop them from taking huge risks by incorporating some “Legends” stories into their season, like Boba Fett returning. Not to mention they laid the groundwork for Grand Admiral Thrawne to return, maybe in the Ahsoka series? They also pulled a Marvel and gave us a post-credit scene in the finale, the announcement of “The Book of Boba Fett” premiering in December 2021.
