Comic Shows Ranked Worst to Best in 2024

Welcome to our Show of the Year article for the fifth year in a row. The Mandalorian won the spot last year but this year we crown a new winner.

We gave the vote to the public. We sent out a link with a form where people could vote for their favorite top 5 shows in order. Each of the top 5 carried points.

  1. 10 points
  2. 8 points
  3. 6 points
  4. 4 points
  5. 2 points

Please note, our ranking ONLY goes off the shows that we at Only Comic Universe reviewed so if your show is not showing, it’s because we never reviewed it. We reviewed 11 shows in total across 2023 but there can only be 1 winner.

We garnered around 150 form submissions which was our most yet, those who left their names will be credited below. Thank you to everyone who took part.

13. Knuckles (76 points)

Overall rating – 8/10

Knuckles was a fun show but for me, I feel like the problem was the marketing. Even those who enjoyed the Sonic films weren’t even aware there was a spin-off Knuckles show and that’s where it fell short. The show wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever watched but it was certainly enjoyable and I’d recommend anybody who has nothing to watch to give this a watch – especially if you’re at the very least, a casual Sonic fan.

12. Halo (78 points)

Average rating – 9/10

I’m not surprised to see Halo so far down this list. I understand the vast majority of people disliked the show even when we enjoyed it. I felt like the final season was great and had some good moments that paid homage to the games which the prior seasons didn’t really do. Unfortunately, though, it was too little too late as it was canceled due to the ongoing backlash. I do hope another studio does pick it up and continue or restart it, Halo fans deserve a live-action TV show.

11. What If…? (118 points)

Average rating – 9.4/10

The second season of What If…? took a turn. It took a turn and diverted from the first seasons script of being connected to the main MCU timeline and put the characters into different stories that somewhat worked and somewhat didn’t. Overall, I still enjoyed the season.

10. Umbrella Academy (160 points)

Overall rating – 3.6/10

I wrote about how poor the final season of Umbrella Academy was. It’s one of those seasons you could skip out on with ease and watch the first 3 instead. The show felt rushed and captured nothing of what made it special beforehand. If this was my list only, this would be the very bottom and it wouldn’t even be a choice. Out of all of the shows on this list, it’s the only one with a low rating.

9. Invincible (178 points)

Average rating – 9.5/10

Honestly, Invincible would have been a lot more great had it not had a midseason break. I think this decision was a terrible one even though I understand why they did it. The overall story for the season was alright but if I’m honest, not a memorable one. The season had it’s moments of greatness but lacked compared to the first.

8. X-Men ’97 (248 points)

Average rating – 9.4/10

X-Men ’97 returned with a bang! What a series, what a story, and what great characters. Honestly, I wasn’t sold on the animation for a long time but that grew on me. What I loved about the series is how it portrayed characters, it gave light to characters such as Gambit, Nightcrawler, and more.

7. The Boys (250 points)

Average rating – 8.4/10

The Boys found itself with its weakest season to date so far. We’re all huge fans of the show but felt like season 4 left a lot to be desired, often focusing on the shock factor rather than actually progressing the story. Regardless of that though it still had some epic moments as always and we’re looking forward to the 5th and final season but I feel like they need to do better moving forward.

6. The Bad Batch (308 points)

Average rating – 8.7/10

For the final season, The Bad Batch was excellent. The show delivered an epic conclusion to three seasons worth of stories and one overall massive story that impacted the future of the Star Wars story. The show was amazing and delivered some great action. The show was up there with some of the very best Star Wars shows.

5. The Penguin (316 points)

Average rating – 9.4/10

The Penguin was a show that honestly, a lot of people wrote off way before the series premiered. I still remember watching the first episode of the season and the episode just absolutely hooked me into it. The show delivered some of the most emotional, sad, funny, and happy moments of the year and I generally do wish I could rewatch it for the first time.

4. Superman & Lois (352 points)

Average rating – 9.5/10

A befitting way to end an era with The CW’s DC shows. We’ve been treated to some incredible entertainment over the years but nothing was better than the final season of Superman and Lois. It ended beautifully and emotionally without a cliffhanger. We were on the edge of our seats throughout the entire season. It’s a testament that this hit 4th in a public vote and it fully deserves to be in the conversation for show of the year.

3. Agatha All Along (370 points)

Average rating – 7.3/10

I’m not surprised Agatha was quite high on this list. This show didn’t just have the Marvel fan base but of course, people who love their witchy vibe shows and movies, especially around Halloween. I personally enjoyed the show, bringing Wiccan back into the MCU this way was very clever and lined things up nicely for him in the future. It definitely deserved its spot on our top shows of the year, I was quite skeptical about whether or not they would pull off this type of show but they did, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

2. Fallout (458 points)

Overall rating – 10/10

Fallout is a show I was initially skeptical of. I’ve been a huge fan of video games since Fallout 3 and beyond. Fallout 4 still remains my all-time favorite video game ever so naturally I was nervous for this. The show however blew my expectations and was easily in the conversation as one of the best shows of 2024. It didn’t even take Amazon long before they renewed it for a second season and we cannot wait for it.

WINNER:

The Acolyte (820 points)

Average rating – 8.8/10

This one came as a surprise to us. This would’ve had so many more points had a lot of submissions counted. There were a lot that didn’t follow the instructions correctly on the form so it resulted in some disregarded submissions which is a shame.

We came to learn that @Acolytelovers on X, an account dedicated to bringing the show back was advocating for this, and what a Herculean effort it was to bring it to #1 this year. The account on X has done a wonderful job in pushing forward for the show to be revived. We also still firmly believe a season 2 for this would have been incredible.

There you have it though, by public vote, The Acolyte is our show of the year.
