Daredevil: Born Again “Straight to Hell” Review

Season 1 Episode 9 – “Mayor Fisk becomes Mayor Kingpin, and Daredevil is unleashed as chaos takes over the city.”

What I Liked

1. Fisk is slowly turning into Mayor Kingpin. He wants the city shut down so the task force can go after vigilantes. He also tells his right-hand man, “What if Matt Murdock succumbs to his wounds saving the Mayor, one dead hero is better than a live vigilante”.

2. Matt arrives back at his apartment in pure darkness. He sits on the sofa, and the last person he expected to be there is waiting in the shadows. Frank Castle! Frank tells Matt that he’s made a promise to get him out of there alive and that he will chop the task force members down when they come in.

3. The team-up between Matt and Frank to take on the task force was brutal. Seeing Matt absolutely wreck shop with his weapon while Frank is absolutely brutalizing the others with all sorts of weapons while taking a few shots of his own.

4. We get to see the city in absolute chaos. Rioters and looters are everywhere, We get to see some police officers stop a kid from stealing, the police then shoot him and pull his hat over his face and deem him a “vigilante”. This is an interesting turn of events. The task force seems to be going after everyone.

5. Fisk may have just gotten the very best, most brutal, and bloodiest kill from within the Marvel Cinematic Universe when we see him rip the commissioner’s skull into pieces. Honestly, I did not expect this at all, but my god, it was insane!

What I Disliked

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment was seeing The Punisher sit and listen to the radio while the task force is talking about things. We then see The Punisher truly come out to play when we see Frank head to the task force’s base of operation. He brutally kills a ton of officers before he ultimately gets caught.

Standout Character

I’ll give this to Mayor Kingpin. He absolutely took control of the city, he beat Daredevil, and had his task force manage to capture Frank Castle to keep in a similar fashion as he did with Adam.

Verdict

A fantastic finale. A lot of great action and intense scenes, along with that, came a solid conclusion to the first season of Daredevil: Born Again. We get a tease of Frank Castle being chained up, and we also find out Daredevil will be recruiting a team for season 2.
