This movie review will contain spoilers!!!

Overview

The third movie in the Deadpool franchise sees Deadpool team up with an unwilling Wolverine to save Deadpool’s world from being erased from the timelines because of the “anchor point” being killed causing the timeline to cease to exist.

Deadpool & Wolverine premiered on July 22, 2024, at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.

Story

The story sort of revolved around 3 main stories. Firstly, the story revolving Wade. Wade sort of had his own issues going on in this movie. He retired from being the masked mercenary known as Deadpool and traveled to the main timeline where he meets Happy Hogan and requests to join the Avengers.

Then we have Wolverine. A legend in his world but not the good kind of legend. He didn’t truly want to be a hero and went out to get drunk and ended up with the X-Men being wiped out by the Humans. So he spends his days drinking away the pain.

We then have the TVA story with Paradox. Essentially his story is that he doesn’t want to work for the TVA, he wants to be the TVA so he can wipe off timelines quicker. He, along with the TVA has a deal with Cassandra Nova. Where she stays in the void and they feed her and Alioth.

The stories then get mashed into one big story where both Deadpool and Wolverine go through a growth period and learn to become better friends and heroes. Honestly, it is a really well-written story that doesn’t try to hard.

Characters

Honestly, the character selection to make this movie work was absolutely spot on. They didn’t overdo it with side characters such as Vanessa, Colossus, or anything. Every character that was introduced in this movie had a purpose.

The cameos and surprise additions to the movie were not just simple “here you go, here is this character”, each cameo and surprise addition had a part to play in the movie, no matter how big or small that was, a character was in the movie for 2 minutes? Still had a part to play. They did incredibly well managing all of the characters in this movie.

Hype

The hype was definitely worth it. I feel like the hype just continued to grow and grow from all of the promos, trailers, marketing, and press tours that Ryan and Hugh went on. It definitely lived up to the hype.

Favorite Moments

1. The opening. Seeing Deadpool say F it and go to the burial site of Wolverine from Logan and using his adamantium bones to absolutely wreck shop against the TVA was so fun to watch. Everything from the song, and the Deadpool dance to the action and comedic moments in the fight was just superb.

2. When Wade was interviewing for a job in the Avengers in the main timeline with Happy. This scene was hilarious and an interaction that I didn’t know that I needed to see but it was just so good, and so fun, and Wade was so out of context in this scene.

3. Seeing the quick montage of Wolverine variants that Deadpool tried to recruit before landing on the Wolverine who lost the X-Men. Seeing the different variants from Patch to the Age of Apocalypse Wolverine and seeing Henry Cavill as a Wolverine. Also, let’s not skip over the fact that they added a comic-accurate Wolverine in height as well.

4. Seeing all of the returning characters and some new characters that I wished to see. Seeing the return of Dafne Keen as Laura (X23), Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Chris Evans, and more, it was just fantastic. One massive surprise I didn’t expect was Gambit played by Channing Tatum. Something I have wanted to see and hope we see again!

5. The Deadpool Corps. Seeing the different versions of Deadpool from Nicepool, dogpool, Ladypool, Kidpool, and more. Some of them were voiced by actors such as Blake Lively, Matthew McConaughey, and Nathan Fillion.

Dislikes

There is absolutely nothing to dislike about the movie.

Yes! 10000% yes! Go see it! This movie is the biggest movie of this year and is easily the best piece of Marvel content released in a little while.

Verdict

The story was honestly quite impactful and had a real sense of emotion to it. It was not the typical “Team-up superhero” movie, you went into this movie and immediately felt sorry for Wade because he wanted more. The action was at an all-time high and was nonstop. The characters and surprise additions to the movie were excellent and the villains of the movie were also done really well and written even better.
