Doom Patrol “Dumb Patrol” Review

Season 2 Episode 7 “Miranda helps protect the Doom Patrol from some truly terrible ideas after a mysterious package arrives at the manor; Rita’s visit to the Cloverton beekeeper leads her to confront her mommy issues; Niles heads north to find Dorothy’s mother.”

What I Liked

1. Cliff flying through the sky, through a billboard into the field was a funny start to the episode. I know I’ll find out later but did he actually just jump from the moon and hope to land on earth? If so, that’s actually fairly impressive!

2. I don’t even know why I like this so much, literally whenever anyone asks Larry where Dorothy and Niles are, he just replies “space”. Like, it’s just a normal thing they’re both not even on the planet.

3. Larry and Jane, or Miranda, whoever it is decided to go and see Larry’s grandson. On arrival, they’re swarmed by armed officers, until they decide to teleport elsewhere and back again with a “disguise”. Obviously swarmed again, brilliant. Just sheer brilliance.

4. I like Rita’s conversations with the beekeeper, especially about her mother. It makes sense for her character to find a way to get over the traumas she saw and faced. I hope this urges her to gain full control of her powers.

5. Right okay, I knew the show was weird but this week takes a hilarious turn with these Scants. Larry, Roni, and Vic are all infected with the scants and become dumb. They’re specifically told by the Beard-Hunter to hide behind him, but instead, they just walk out and seem happy to be infected. I don’t even know what is going on but it’s hilarious.

What I Disliked

I wish Cliff would change his tone and ways when it comes to his daughter. Instead, as he’s stuck on the road, he uses a random guy’s phone, and instead of asking for help, he just screams at her. I know it’s part of his character, but it is quite frustrating when you have seen the same scenes multiple times. I know she shows up the mansion near the end, and I hope this is a push to Cliff getting it together.

Favourite Moment

Miranda with the quick changes as the team are tied up with the Scants Queen was fantastic. The control over it, the changes, the way she just ended the entire ordeal in 15 seconds. I’m hoping the Miranda character sticks around for a while because she’s great!

Standout Character

Surprisingly I have to give it to Cyborg this week. His attitude was immensely different, working with the team, although infected and dumb, it was still a joy to watch.

Verdict

If I’m honest, I wasn’t excited about this week whatsoever. However, it went a different route and was actually fun to watch. The lack of Dorothy made it even better. The team was all pretty much together, besides a few of them and although there were still mini arks placed around, it wasn’t as bad as it has been with this side of things lately.

Rating 9.1/10
