Doom Patrol “Finger Patrol” Review

Season 2 Episode 5 “Dorothy finds a new friend. Niles plans to give Cliff human-like upgrades. Larry brings Rita to meet his family after she has a lousy audition.”

What I Liked?

1. The episode starts off with Cyborg having a nightmare about the woman he likes, the nightmare was off him and her on a date when she has one of Cyborg’s canons on her arm and she aims it at people then Cyborg’s grid system joins in with her.

2. Niles makes Jane’s “Baby Doll” personality come out to make friends with Dorothy, Jane and Dorothy instantly become friends but then have a falling out when Jane touches one of Dorothy’s friends.

3. After Rita has a bad audition she starts to drink so Larry takes her with him to meet his son Paul, when he does he meets his grandchild and great-grandchild.

4. Cliff basically had a boring role in this episode, he was essentially looking for upgrades on his body but he did come up with a cheesy police show named “Steele & Stone” with him and Cyborg.

5. Larry’s son had started to do research into Larry after meeting at the funeral, he then tells the US Government about Larry and he tries to have Larry recaptured but Larry unleashes his negative energy which kills the soldiers but not without his grandchild being hit by a stray bullet and Rita uses her powers to shield Larry’s great-grandchild.

6. Jane locks Dorothy in a furnace and ends up “killing” one of Dorothy’s friends which are inside her head. This causes Dorothy to make a wish which was to unleash a fire creature inside the underground, killing Baby Doll.

What I Disliked?

The lack of action until the end of the episode really kept me from being invested into the episode, it was hard to watch at times and the episode had about 5 different stories all at once which made it hard to keep invested in one story at a time.

Favorite Moment

Cliff, while waiting for Cyborg finds himself trying to stop two criminals from stealing a car. Cliff punches on onto the windscreen of another car and his arm locks into place causing him to slam the door on the other criminals’ hand causing him to lose a finger.

Standout Character

Cliff was the comedic side of the episode and killed every scene he was in.

The Verdict

The episode felt very slow and each story was all over the place, the episode should have focused on maybe one or two stories but not 5 or so stories at once. The episode also left the action until the end of the episode and even then was over in a matter of minutes.

Rating: 7/10
