Season 2 Episode 6 “Larry is tasked with handling Niles’ old research team when the ageless aeronauts return from space; as Niles and Cliff set out to find a missing Dorothy, a funeral in The Underground occupies Jane’s mind.”
What I Liked
1. I did somewhat like when Rita turns back home with Larry, she decides to go through with the theatre work, considering she loved her work as an actress before her powers. The show has done a great job this season in bringing the more human emotions back to the characters, similar to Cliff and the race car in the first episode.
2. Larry learns what actually happened when he hit a cosmic rift. The woman explains that they learned how to contain the radiation within their skin. Even showing Larry. I would like to see him learn to contain his in the same way, whilst maintaining access to energy companion.
3. Vic actually showcases more of his capabilities in this episode which is a positive sign for the character. He scans Roni’s body to find out what is actually wrong with her and also hacks the government system to find out what truly happened. STAR Labs is also dropped, and he contacts his father so we get to see him again as well. A good couple of scenes here.
4. Quite deep with the space team that shows up. We learn that the two guys, Zip, and Specks are in fact dead and not alive. They were only brought back so the spores that affected them would potentially die, and they could finally rest. I honestly never expected that twist, although subtle because they will only be a one-episode type ark.
What I Disliked
1. I know the show is ridiculous, but really? Dorothy stealing a spaceship, knowing how to fly it, and just running away to space? Come on.
2. I may be a minority here, but I’m seriously struggling to understand the Underground. It doesn’t make much sense, Jane is back but I’m not actually sure which one is the primary now.
Favourite Moment
The ending kind of shook me with Niles. As he and Cliff are ready to return home from space, he slams the door shut and Cliff is thrust back out to space. Niles seemingly has something planned, as he gears up to start the spaceship and return home. A decent cliffhanger I must say.
Standout Character
A seriously tough week to give the standout to. Every character played their roles well, but if I am to give it, I’m going to give it to Jane. Especially the way she stood up to everyone in front of the well. It was a great scene, even if I don’t have the slightest idea of what is going on there.
Verdict
A decent episode this week, however, my main problem with the Doom Patrol has been the same since the show began. The lack of action starts to become a problem for me. The last episode was mostly similar as they’re all on separate arks, instead of being a team and fighting alongside each other. I like the show, but I feel like it could use an injection of a proper team-up fight.
