Dragon Ball Super Card Game’s recent release in their long-line of card sets is Supreme Rivalry, this set looks decent on paper, but is it actually worth it? I’ll break down my experience in opening a booster box for the set and explain the cards I got in three sections, “For Beginners”, “For Collectors”, and “Purely for Profit”.
For Beginners
As always, any beginner who is jumping into this hobby whether that be collecting, playing the trading card game, or purely in this for the resell monetization side of things, any booster box is worth the price tag, I paid £84 and I feel satisfied every single time I buy a booster box and crack it open.
Yes, any beginner might think that buying a booster box is risky and I won’t lie, the risk is there because of the cards you could pull, but luckily, the booster boxes guarantee some decent cards and collection pieces and even profit in each box.
For Collectors
Any collector needs to pick up at least a few boxes for Supreme Rivalry, this set is great in the artwork that comes on the cards, it’s some of the best card artwork I’ve seen and it’s made even better on the SR’s and SPR’s with the gold outlines on cards.
For me, I got this box mainly as a collector, I do eventually want to jump into the trading card game, I’m currently in the midst of getting some decks together to play the game. I opened this box for that reason but with some of the cards I managed to unpack, I’m definitely sending a handful off to be graded for my collection.
Purely for Profit
Now, this section is where it gets interesting, £84 for one single booster box, did I get my money back or did I make a profit? Now in this set, there are 3 secret rare cards which are some of the nicest designs on a card, these cards sell anywhere from $300 to $350 raw (ungraded). If I somehow managed to pull one of these cards and got it graded it would be so much more in profit.
But what did I make? As soon as I opened the box, each booster box comes with a single card, I managed to pull an SS2 Son Gohan, Astonishing Strike (SPR) card which is around $25, later in some packs I managed to pack this card once again, so that’s $50 so far, I also managed to pack a King Vegeta’s Imposing Presence (SPR) which is around $20, total so far is $70, in a few more packs I managed to pack an $8, $5, $2.50, and another $5 card, which brings my total to around $91 so in GBP that would be around £65, you might think “well, he paid £84 and got £65 back, he didn’t even break even”, yes, your right, but £65 for around 5 cards is amazing, then on top of that you have the other foil cards and the normal commons/uncommons which can range from $0.25 to $5, so in reality, I did make a profit.
This is not to mention if I got a handful of these cards graded and they all come back either 9 or above, this is all profit if I was to eve sell any card I got graded, this is where some of the major profit comes from in this set if you don’t pull a secret rare.
Overall Verdict
The overall verdict is that this set and booster box is completely worth it, the pure enjoyment I got from this box, was so much more than the collector’s pieces, the artwork, and profit. This box is insanely nice, of great quality, and perfect. While I didn’t get any secret rare card, I did get the cards I wanted, and that’s all I can ask for.
