First Look: Henry Golding in “Snake Eyes”

We finally had our first look at Henry Golding and other cast members in the upcoming G.I. Joe spinoff movie “Snake Eyes”. Henry Golding stars as Snake Eyes and will potentially be the catalyst for future movies in the G.I. Joe universe.

Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first promotional images.

The film serves as an origin movie for the character of Snake Eyes, when producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura was asked about it, he said “It was one of the reasons why we picked the backstory of Snake Eyes, how did he become Snake Eyes”.

Di Bonaventura also stated that Snake Eyes will “answer some questions” left lingering after all these years, he quoted “You’ll learn who he is, where he came from”.

the upcoming Snake Eyes movie is directed by Robert Schwentke and is set to hit theaters this July 23. The film will see the man who will eventually go on to become the iconic character.

Di Bonaventura says “his life has now been completely and utterly affected by this scar”. It’s in this state where he is being driven by the wrong motivations, taken under the win of Tommy (Andrew Koji, Warrior) better know to fans as “Storm Shadow”, a member of the Arashikage Ninja Clan.

Fans will know that Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow have one of the most famous relationships in G.I. Joe history, their brotherhood/relationship is such an interesting story because of love and hate, they love each other as brothers because they’ve been through the same thing. The actor states “after saving the Arashikage’s heir apparent, Snake is taken to Japan to train and “really bring out the true essence of who he is”.

Facing three trials in order to be inducted into the clan will also see Snake cross paths with Akiko played by Haruka Abe with Golding calling “phenomenal in this film”.

Di Bonaventura also states that Snake is “A burdened man when the movie begins, and in this process, he lifts some of the burden”, “It’s a lot of internal searches to find the balance in his life, that’s the gravity of the movie. There are forces pulling him in two different directions with those being good and bad”.

Now, I love the G.I. Joe movies, in each of the live-action movies, every time Snake Eyes has always popped for me, especially in comics and animation too, his design is amazing, he’s this ninja who doesn’t speak, he’s a badass, he’s a great fighter, and his history with Storm Shadow is amazing and each time they fight, I’m always hooked to the screen.
