“Harry Potter” Live-action Series in Early Development at HBO Max

A live-action Harry Potter series is in early development over at HBO Max. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that the WarnerMedia back streamer, HBO Max has held multiple talks with potential directors to bring the magic world to HBO Max as a TV series.

While the executives at WarnerMedia and HBO Max have held talks, it’s still in very early stages so no official writer or castings have been made yet. They have said no official Harry Potter series is in the works so this could mean we may not even get a series.

Warner Bros and HBO Max have said expanding the world of Harry Potter is still the main priority for the companies as well as J.K Rowling. Harry Potter is still one of the most valuable pieces of IP they own.

“Harry Potter” Warner Bros Media.

It’s no surprise that Warner Bros and HBO Max want to bring it into the TV series world as all 7 of the Harry Potter movies have done insanely well at the box office with all 7 grossing over $7 billion.

Not to mention that they still have the Fantastic Beasts franchise with a 3rd movie set to release next year and potentially 2 more Fantastic Beasts movies coming after that.

This also gives J.K Rowling to adopt a new story for the series away from the history of Harry Potter and Voldemort. I’m curious as to what kind of story we’d get if this was to be greenlit and made into a series.
