According to Bloomberg, the Harry Potter movies will be rebooted into a series. Each season will represent one of the books by J.K. Rowling.
The deal isn’t officially complete as of writing but according to reports, the deal is almost done from Warner Bros. Discovery Inc.
There is no further news on this at this stage, but I will delve into my thoughts on this.
Is it needed?
It isn’t. Not for me, anyway. The movies are perfect as is. The Deathly Hallows Part 2 only came out in 2011, the movies are still fresh.
To then reboot a multi-billion dollar franchise into a series isn’t needed. J.K. Rowling has created a universe, if a series is to be made then surely they can be creative enough to make a new and fresh story outside of Harry Potter.
It’s like Disney rebooting the original Star Wars films, it’s just not necessary. There are a few people who loved the books that want this to happen. I just can’t see them adding the same layer of budget to a TV series as they did to the movies. Plus, this is WB after all…
For me, if you want a film based on Harry Potter then push the cast and get them back for a film after the events of The Deathly Hallows. Whether this is the Cursed Child or something new, it doesn’t matter. I always give my opinion on news pieces and I cannot see this being as or more successful than the movies.
