Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 third-person shooter game, similar to Overwatch but with Marvel Heroes and villains as the main characters. The game has recently been released and is currently free-to-play with a lineup of 33 characters from within the Marvel Universe.
While I haven’t played it myself, I do question whether this game is the next big video game from Marvel or if will it die out quickly?
With huge names on the roster such as Black Panther, Loki, Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Spider-Man, Magneto, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Thor, and The Punisher alongside characters such as Cloak & Dagger, Peni Parker, Mantis, Moon Knight.
It is safe to say that the roster is absolutely stacked and will only be added to over the course of the game’s lifespan. One thing I do like about the game is that developers NetEase have claimed that there will be no purchaseable gameplay elements.
Heroes, maps, and so on would be free, while there are methods to purchase cosmetic items like skins, there will also be ways to earn cosmetic items through free play. This is such a huge move from the developers in regards to this as they could have easily monetized this feature.
Everywhere I go people are talking about this game. The hype is real but the question remains, is this the next big Marvel game? Will it last? In my opinion, the market is wide open for this type of game so this would be a game that will be around for a few years even before a sniff of a sequel.
