I’m a huge Fallout fan, but it is scary to think about how long it will be before the next iteration into the Fallout franchise is released. The last Fallout title to be released was November 14th, 2018, but the last major title was November 10th, 2015. We’re heading into the 10-year territory since that was released.
Bethesda hasn’t had the best time since then. Fallout 76 was not well received. The updates have made the game a bit better but it’ll never hit the same as a numbered single-player title will. Then there’s also the dumpster fire that’s Starfield.
Now, admittedly, I enjoyed Starfield. I’m mainly a PS5 player but bought an Xbox just for that game. I did have fun with it, it wasn’t game-breaking by any means, but if the rumors are true and it does come to PlayStation I’ll buy it. However, that hasn’t stopped the game from being trashed by fans everywhere. I don’t blame them in fairness. Starfield could never live up to the likes of the Elder Scrolls series or Fallout.
The next major title to come from Bethesda will be The Elder Scrolls 6, which was initially announced in 2018. We’re heading into 7-year territory with this announcement alone. Since then, it’s effectively been radio silence. What we do know is that Fallout will be after Elder Scrolls 6, whenever that is.
That is ultimately what makes it so terrifying. The fact that the next Scrolls game was announced almost 7 years ago, and I don’t even believe we’re close to a release date, it’s scary. If there isn’t another entire team dedicated to Fallout already, then it begs the question of when that’ll even come.
People are speculating a 2026 release for Elder Scrolls 6, but I firmly believe we’re looking at the latter part of 2027, possibly 2028. If this is anything to go by, Skyrim was released in November 2011. That’ll make it at least 15 years between them. We could be looking at an even bigger increase between the major Fallout titles.
If Fallout hasn’t even started a script or the production phase, we could easily be looking at 2035 and onwards. I was 22 when Fallout 4 came out, it would make me 42 if I’m right on 2035. I’d be close to retirement age if this same time span continued for Fallout 7.
I’m venting, of course. From the back of the hugely successful Amazon Prime TV show, it’s a shame that Fallout feels like an afterthought now in the gaming world. The next-generation update for Fallout 4 was good, but I want something new, something exciting that isn’t subject to microtransactions and power creeps that is Fallout 76.
I haven’t played Fallout 76 in a few years now so correct me if I’m wrong on the above statement.
It could also be possible that the generations of consoles we’re playing on at the moment may not see any further Bethesda releases, possibly the exception of Starfield on Sony, but after that, it’s unlikely. I fully expect to see The Elder Scrolls 6 on the PS6 and Fallout 6 on the PS7.
