When James Gunn and Peter Safran were put in charge of WB and DC Studios, James revealed a sort of plan for the DCU going forward, the main thing being Superman Legacy.
It was revealed that James would be looking for a younger actor to play the Man of Steel and that the movie would be set in Superman’s younger years, so with James Gunn looking at a younger actor to portray Superman, they would have to test many actors for the role, but we finally have an announcement for the next Clark Kent.
Following months of audition tapes and in-person screen tests, James and Peter settled on David Corenswet as the future incarnation of Clark Kent. While they cast Clark, they also cast the future Lois Lane and that character will be played by Rachel Brosnahan.
The decision for these two was made after the two were selected from a few to test in front of Peter and James Gunn in full costume and make-up for the roles. The test took place over the course of two days with the men.
It was also stated one of the tests was with three actors who were all in Superman attire. The closed test deals would expire after two business weeks so it was obvious that the studio wanted this sorted out before the potential SAG-AFTRA strike, which could go into effect on the midnight of June 30.
While Warner Bros. has yet to announce that they will or won’t be attending this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, there is still a chance that if they do appear at Comic-Con, the two actors could be revealed at the studio’s Hall H panel.
That said, if a SAG-AFTRA strike were to happen, the two actors could not attend as the guidelines for the strike state no actors can promote any projects during a strike. The process has gone on for months with Safran and Gunn wanting a thorough search to find the perfect actors.
James Gunn will be directing and writing the movie.
