Krypton “Zod’s and Monsters” Review

Season 2 episode 7 “General Zod pushes for control of a dominating weapon; Seg and Nyssa fight to save Seg’s life.”

What Was Good?

1. Seg is feeling the effects of having Brainiac trapped inside him, he can feel Brainiac slowly shutting down his body with invisible nanites planted in his brain.

2. Kem becoming a leader and leading a squad with rebels and Adam to go find the remaining Sagitari on Wegthor, instead of killing them, Kem remembers being hungry in the rankless section so he offers the Sagitari food.

3. Seg motivates Nyssa to do the surgery by hand after Brainiac breaks the machine that is doing the surgery. Nyssa manages to remove the nanites from Seg and saves him. Seg gets changed into a shirt with the “S” logo on it.

4. Zod takes control of Doomsday and plans to release him on Wegthor and tells Doomsday he’ll finally be a Kryptonian hero.

5. Brainiac takes control of the Val-El hologram inside the fortress then leaves but not before taking Cor-Vex with him.

What Was Bad?

Only one bad point this episode which truly shocked me, We got teased with a battle between Zod and Doomsday but it was a major let down as Zod defeated Doomsday by shooting him 3 times.

Holy Shit Moment

1. We got a flashback scene of 1000 cycles ago where we see a member of the El house as well as a member of the Zod house, they are running tests on a soldier because he has the “Vara Gene” the trails are to make his cells invulnerable to everything, this was indeed a Doomsday origin flashback.
2. Seg asks Nyssa if he could hold Cor for the first time since Brainiac was in his mind so he holds Cor when Seg and Nyssa talk about the history of the Vex family and that Cor shouldn’t be known for what Nyssa’s father did so they decide to rename Cor to Cor-El until Val suggests they use his fathers name, Jor so Seg and Nyssa settle on calling him Jor-El, Supermans father. The Superman theme music from the movies played in the background.

The Verdict

Absolutely an incredible episode, so many nods to Superman, Finally finding out who Superman’s father is. The Doomsday flashback scene made me think of Doomsday in another way because he essentially got lied to by the El’s and Zod’s.
