Let’s Talk: “Ahsoka” Baylan And Shin Hati’s Lightsabers

One of the major talking points for the Ahsoka trailers was the color of the lightsabers that Baylan and Shin had. Their lightsabers were not pure red like normal Sith in Star Wars canon such as Darth Sidious, Darth Vader, Count Dooku, and more.

Baylan and Shin’s colors are orange, making them different and, as I’ve seen on social media, a focus of the two “dark Jedi”. I want to speak about them because I’ve been catching up on some reading material and I’m currently reading through the Book of Sith.

In the show, other than the lightside characters, there is also an Inquisitor named Marrok who uses a pure red saber, we know how he got his as he was around working for the Empire. I want the show to tell us more about the orange sabers, are they natural crystals, artificial, or are they crystals that have been bled?

According to the Book of Sith, the Sith have had a long superior alternative. Raw elements cooked in a brood furnace will produce an artificial crystal that can generate an energy blade that will burn with a bright crimson light.

We also know that within canon, Ahsoka managed to takedown 2 Inquisitors and purify the crystals and that is how she has white sabers. So my thinking is, did Baylan when he escaped Order 66, did he begin to bleed his crystal but as the show has shown us, he’s not fully on the dark side, and in turn is this the reason why his saber is orange and not red?

It would make sense, as the show had shown us that there are some issues within him, as he doesn’t want to have to kill Ahsoka, I feel as though the sabers will play a huge part within the show. I feel that if Baylan does return to being a full Jedi, his saber will either turn back to his normal color or he will be struck down by Shin and we’ll see her saber turn that crimson red.

It would also make sense as to why both master and apprentice have orange sabers, Shin is young, she’s still an apprentice and she wouldn’t been around or old enough to be a Jedi at the time of Order 66, so what if Baylan began to bleed his crystal and he taught Shin on how to do hers. It is curious that all of a sudden the creators are introducing orange crystals.

It’s why I feel that a Star Wars project that involves Jedi or Sith, needs to have some scenes depicting the bleeding of crystals. We’ve seen Jedi padawans go to Ilum in search of their crystals, but other than a recent comic for Darth Vader we haven’t seen any bleeding on kyber crystals.

A lot of people don’t understand that there is more to a lightsaber than just being an energy blade.
