Marvel released the first episode of Secret Invasion on Disney+ this week. Now I loved the episode. It had everything from action to a decent story, and it even had early Agents of SHIELD vibes to it. I loved the spy-thriller aspect of the series.
Coming away after watching the episode I saw complaints about the show, mainly two but I get it, not everyone will like it but the two things I want to speak about are the intro to the series and the humor in the show.
The Intro
Now, I loved the intro. I watched the episode and I couldn’t tell it was created by AI until a friend told me afterwards. I then realized why it looks odd for a Marvel intro because it is an intro based on how you interpret it.
I viewed the intro as an imitation. Like how you can imitate art. I feel like the intro was based on Skrulls imitating humans on Earth. I get people do not like it because they believe in the near future that AI will be doing a lot of jobs and it will, it will happen eventually but people will not be out of a job altogether.
Humor
I do not get that critics are severely hurting the ratings because they want more humor. This series is a series based spy-triller series that is about an invasion of Earth and people want Nick Fury to crack a joke in every sentence. No. It will hurt the series.
We tried humor in multiple projects from within the MCU, some of it worked, and some of it didn’t. For example, Thor: Love and Thunder. That was riddled with a joke in every bit of dialogue to the point it ruined the movie. I hated it. Yes, have some humor, and crack a joke but not every MCU project needs to be a comedy show.
Bringing back the serious tone of the MCU will help get it back on track for the simple fact that it will make it feel like there is truly something at stake.
None of the humor in this first episode was forced. It felt natural, it wasn’t cringe, forced, or anything. It was perfect.
Critics complained about Marvel having too much humor and now all of a sudden this series is getting bad reviews for barely any humor. Make it make sense, sometimes stuff isn’t funny.
This is a Marvel show which has the proper writing, drama, and humor of a classic Marvel project and I love it.
