Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 2 Ranked Worst to Best According to the Box Office

Welcome to our brand-new series. We will be taking a look at the Box Office numbers for individual franchises and MCU phases, then ranking them from worst to best. We will be using Box Office Mojo to check for the statistics which you can check out yourself.

Today, we will be looking at Phase 1 of Marvel. Our next episodes will be the individual phases for Marvel. We’ll then move on to other franchises such as DC, Transformers, Harry Potter, etc.

6. Ant-Man (2015)

  • $519,311,965

Ant-Man never had the greatest time when compared to other MCU movies, however, it was the first solo movie to be released outside of the original 3. It did okay and the movie was super fun and entertaining. It also leads to the character being the one who came up with the idea to stop Thanos.

5. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

  • $644,783,140

Perhaps one of the lesser enjoyable MCU movies. The Dark World actually had an alright time at the Box Office but the movie itself wasn’t great. It’s the one movie I don’t look forward to when I do an MCU run. Don’t get me wrong, the movie wasn’t horrible per se, it had some great moments. It just had boring moments more than it did good ones.

4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

  • $714,421,503

Arguably one of the best MCU movies according to fans. The Winter Soldier was perfectly done. It’s such a shame to see it third on this list when it comes to the Box Office when it’s probably easily the best movie in Phase 2.

3. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

  • $773,350,147

The first venture into the MCU with James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. This movie was definitely a risk. Unless you’re a die-hard comic book fan or came across the Guardians by chance, it’s likely you never heard of them. The trailer didn’t do them a lot of favors either but when the movie dropped, it cemented the Guardian’s place in history. The movie was funny, entertaining, and action-packed with great music choices. It definitely deserved the numbers it got at the Box Office.

2. Iron Man 3 (2013)

  • $1,214,811,252

Another movie that was lackluster, very similar to Thor’s Dark World. This movie did have some strong points, mainly seeing Tony Stark without the suits. The plot alone was silly and didn’t do a lot. You’re also telling me, Tony’s house got destroyed, thought to be dead, announced on national news and no other Avenger or Fury showed up? Nah.

The movie did amazing at the Box Office, being the second MCU movie to reach over $1b alongside The Avengers.

1. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

  • $1,402,809,540

Here’s number 1 of Phase 2. It was obvious anyway before I started this article that Age of Ultron would be first. When this movie came out, the MCU was in full effect and ready to take over the cinema. Age of Ultron set up everything moving forward with the Sokovia Accords which would later cause Civil War and the loss in Infinity War. Ultron deserved more though but the movie was brilliant regardless.
