For the last couple of years, San Diego Comic-Con hasn’t been as prevalent as it usually is. This was a result of Covid and both Marvel and DC doing their own events. Marvel would use Investor Day or Disney+ Day, whilst DC would use their hugely successful FanDome to showcase their new shows, movies, trailers, news, and upcoming projects.
In 2022 we knew both DC and Marvel would be returning to their original panels, and we got an influx of trailers, news, release dates, and more. It’s been a very busy weekend for both parties with some very exciting drops. In this article, we will cover everything from DC and Marvel. Below this, you can see a table of contents. Kevin Feige begins by announcing that Phase 4 is done. He reveals that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the conclusion of Phase 4. Phase 5 for Marvel will begin with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantummania. Phase 5 will also include Loki season 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Blade, and Echo.
Daredevil: Born Again has officially been announced and has a release date of Spring 2024. The series will consist of 18 episodes. Charlie Cox will return. Loki season 2 will release in the summer of 2023. May 3, 2024, will be the release date for Captain America: New World Order. Thunderbolts was officially announced.
Blade will begin filming in October with the project released on November 3, 2023. She-Hulk was described as Marvel’s first 30-minute TV comedy. Agatha has been retitled to Agatha: Coven of Chaos and will release in the winter of 2023.
As revealed in the trailer, Daredevil will appear in “She-Hulk”. Secret Invasion is happening with Cobie Smulders set to return as Maria Hill. Vincent D-Onofrio will also be in Daredevil: Born Again. Cobie Smulders has said that Secret Invasion is “an exciting thriller, You’re never going to know who people are. Are they a Skrull?”.
Don Cheadle will return as War Machine in Secret Invasion. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will spend a lot more time in the Quantum Realm. Paul Rudd has said, “Scott Lang is pleased with himself for saving the universe. Scott has been busy at work-ish with a little book”.
Wong will return in “She-Hulk”. Modok is confirmed to appear in “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania”. Bill Murray is confirmed for “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania”. James Gunn appeared and revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is the end of “this Guardians” era in the MCU. James said, “Some stories have an end, doesn’t mean everyone dies”.
Chukwudi Iwuji will be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 as the High Evolutionary. MAria Bakalova stars as Cosmo in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Sean Gunn on ‘GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 3’ — “We fucking care. We do. It extends to all of us. It’s the most beautiful thing when all your colleagues are on the same page.
Will Poulter on joining ‘GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 3’. — “I was welcomed into the family. I’m grateful there was an appetite for Adam from the fans.” Chukwudi Iwuji appears at SDCC in full costume as The High Evolutionary.
“I can’t wait to dissect all of you and see what I learn!” says Chukwudi Iwuji in character as The High Evolutionary. Fantastic Four will be the first film of Phase 6. It was revealed that we’ll get 2 Avengers movies in 2025.
Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has spoken about Chadwick Boseman “I promise you that I can feel his arm on my shoulder right now.” Tenoch Huerta and Dominique Thorne, who will play Namor and Ironheart in ‘BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Winston Duke on ‘BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER: “I am filled with so much gratitude to be standing with a project that came with so much love every day on set, from every person in front of the camera and behind the camera.”
Tenoch Huerta, who plays Namor, says “thanks to inclusion I’m here, a lot out there are looking at us dreaming to be here. And they are going to make it!” Michaela Coel will star as Aneka in ‘BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER.
‘BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER’ follows Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye and the Dora Milaje fight to protect their nation in the wake of King T’Challa’s death and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.
‘GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 3’ follows Star-Lord, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, who must rally his team to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed, could lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Olivia Colman will star as an old ally of Nick Fury in ‘SECRET INVASION’. Footage for ‘ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA’ shows Scott Lang is now a celebrity and wrote a book about saving the world but his ego and fame has driven him away from his daughter Cassie and the rest of the family.
Kevin Feige says The Russo Brothers are not directing ‘AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY’ and ‘AVENGERS: SECRET WARS’. Kang the Conqueror appears in his classic green and purple armour, although he is not blue.
On to DC news, Viola Davis returns as Amanda Waller in ‘BLACK ADAM’. Jaume Collet Serra likens Black Adam to “a Dirty Harry like character” because of how much he operates in the gray area “breaking down the establishment.” They have also finished the Black Adam film.
Lucy Liu says “to be apart of the DC universe and this world is probably the most exciting thing thats happened in my career. Being here as a woman of color, I feel like I’m in a place where I’m home.” Zachary Levi on the possibility of ‘SHAZAM 3’. “I hope so… if you guys go and see this one and you like, then there’s a good chance that the bosses will make another one.”
Helen Mirren says “I absolutely loved playing Hespera. I had such a lovely time kicking the shit out of you, Zach!” Billy Batson’s storyline in Fury of the Gods sees him scared because adulthood is on the horizon and he is afraid of becoming old. ‘SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS’ will be set a few years after the first film with the Shazam Family as established heroes in the DCEU

I think it’s fair to say Marvel had a very good weekend at SDCC. DC never gave us much which is a shame because we never got anything for Aquaman 2, The Flash, Batgirl, or anything else. However, DC FanDome hasn’t officially been announced for 2022 yet but we’re hoping the event still goes ahead because the last 2 years have been a success for DC.
It’s very likely we’ll get more from Marvel in the upcoming Disney events.
SDCC has been fantastic this year, especially for fans now knowing where we’re heading. Two Avengers movies coming as well which is just amazing to hear. We hope you enjoyed all of the news from SDCC.
