What I Liked

1. The beginning of the episode definitely intrigued me. I’m around 10 minutes in at present, I’m enjoying what Marvel is trying to achieve. I’m already curious about Steven, who he is, what his characteristics are like etc when he’s his normal self, especially when he wakes up in the middle of nowhere with a broken jaw.

2. We’re introduced to Arthur now after Steven wakes up in the middle of nowhere. We learn that Arthur’s tattoos can detect if someone is good or bad. If they’re bad then they seemingly die at the hands of Arthur. This is so well done. The interest continuously peaks as the episode drags on with each major character.

3. I do love how brutal they’re going with the show. Although we’ve not seen any of the transitions yet, we do know when it’s happened. Steven at first woke up with 3 people dead and blood on his hands. When he’s going down the turned bends in an ice cream truck, he switches a couple of times. I do wish we could have seen it but it does build up that suspense which is a decent thing. He then just wakes up in bed thinking it’s all a dream which just makes it even better.

4. Marvel giving us those thriller moments is welcomed. When Steven finds the Motorola Razr (miss that phone), we get glimpses of Mark. Obviously, this is still Oscar Isaac but the accent is different which is going to be a very interesting dynamic when we learn more. But the terrifying thriller points of the show definitely add more intrigue than other shows that Marvel has done previously.

5. Arthur manages to track Steven down to the Egyptian museum where he performs that weird scale virtual. We know earlier that those scales represent if someone is going to be a good or bad person, it seems that way anyway. After he touches Steven he mentions that there’s chaos inside of him. We know he’s right but this is going down an avenue I’m all for.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favourite Moment

Steven and Mark finally meet at the end of the episode when a monster is chasing Steven through a museum trying to kill him. Steven agrees to give control then we see a brief suit-up moment until it’s rudely interrupted. The scene from the trailer happens where Moon Knight is just punching this monster into the ground. What a scene and what an ending.

Standout Character

Of course, It’s Moon Knight himself. Or Steven. This is going to get confusing. To be honest, the episode was all about his introduction as a character so it was a given from the offset that he would be given a standout and he deserves it nonetheless. I love Oscar Isaac as an actor.

Verdict

A solid introduction to Moon Knight from Marvel with some exceptional camera work. The show offered us a great introduction to who our main character is. I have a feeling judging by how the first episode ended that we’re in for one hell of a ride.
