What I Liked
1. I’ve said it before, I do enjoy the natural history within the show, more so with British-ruled India. It’s intriguing to see how it all leads from that to Ms. Marvel getting her hands on the bangle and gaining superpowers.
2. We do see Aisha’s death at the train station at the hand of Najma. That stabbing was nasty. It’s more the fact that because so many people are trying to flee, the station was packed with people. Najma just plunged a knife into Aisha’s stomach and nobody batted an eyelid. That’s deep.
3. After the timings match up between Kamala arriving and Aisha being stabbed, we see how Sana (Kamala’s grandmother) actually gets on the train. It was Kamala that got her into the train. I am intrigued to see how this fits in with the current time period and if Sana remembers this happening.
4. Kamran goes to Bruno for help. As the pair begin to start again due to them clashing the first time around, a drone appears in the window. Kamran immediately uses his powers and hits the drone resulting in it falling to the ground, it then fires a missile into the building, and the episode ends. That does leave a few questions in regards to who sent it, how did they know to target Kamran, and more? Especially with a missile.
What I Disliked
1. 19 minutes into the episode until seeing Kamala. I did not like this at all. It’s more that we haven’t seen Kamala’s character develop properly and 19 minutes into the story of Aisha wasn’t properly needed. Truthfully it could’ve been told in 5 minutes if that.
2. Still no suit, which goes alongside point number 3. I know they’re going to hold the suit as a capturing moment for the finale but that’s the thing, I don’t want to just see the suit for the best part of 10 minutes. It’s not like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier where Falcon already had a proper suit until the end when the Wakandans made him a new one. She doesn’t have anything. Don’t get me wrong, it’s going to be a brilliant moment when she suits up but it should’ve been before now.
3. It’s the finale next week and I have to admit, I’m not particularly excited about it. The story hasn’t been built up enough to feel like the series already ends next week. The next time we’ll see Kamala after this is in Captain Marvel 2, I feel like the show so far has been too slow.
Favourite Moment
Quite an intense scene with Najma, as we go back to the current timeframe with everyone still knocked out from the fight in the last episode, a portal opens. Najma wants to pass through but Kamala attempts to stop her. Somehow her “killing herself” causes Kamran to get powers. This entire scene was touching, even more so when Kamala’s Mom and Grandma walk into the building when she’s using her powers. I really did enjoy this entire scene.
Standout Character
It’s a difficult one this week as no character truly stood out for me. If I am to give it to one character then I will give it to Muneeba, Kamala’s mother. I want to give it to her truly for the connections shared with Kamala, even more so when she saw her use her powers and also telling her the reasons why she’s been tough on her. A great episode for her.
Verdict
The episode had some brilliant emotional moments throughout, especially with Kamala and her family. However, besides those, the episode was boring in large sections and never really advanced the story well. We’re still without a suit and with the finale fast approaching next week, I honestly don’t care for it.
