Ubisoft’s next major title includes the Star Wars IP and boasts how it’s the first open-world game when technically it’s not. Jedi: Survivor featured 2 planets that were technically open-world as it did feature side quests and an ability to roam around.
A lot of people have complained about the main character, Kay Vess. I’m not bothered about that. I’m excited to see Kay’s story and how it plays out. As a male, I also don’t care that I’m forced to play as a female character. I’ll enjoy it either way.
I have two major issues at first glance.
My first main issue is the setting of the game. The game is set between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi and will be focused on the underworld side of Star Wars. I don’t mind this to an extent but I am sick to the back teeth of the Imperial Empire timeline.
It’s been done over and over again. It feels like too many creators just try to play it safe and it’s just boring at this stage. We KNOW how it plays out. It also further affects the ability of characters to show up as we obviously know Darth Vader for example is too focused on Luke, as is the Emperor.
Then the next major issue is obviously the most glaring issue. It’s going to be made by Ubisoft.
Ubisoft is hardly the most trusted developer in the gaming world. They’ve made some horrific games in the last few years and don’t seem to care about the consumers.
Also, most of their games are virtually the same. I can see the next Assassin’s Creed game and Outlaws being identical in many ways except they’ll have a different skin slapped on them.
They claim this and that but we all know for a fact it won’t end up like anything they boast. It’ll be a generic open world with nothing new or exciting. I’ve heard some people say to give it to Bethesda and I agree. At least their worlds are engaging and interesting.
I’m excited for the story but for the game? I’m not. I couldn’t care less. This is due to Ubisoft’s poor handling of games in recent years. Watch Dogs: Legion is a prime example of them not giving 2 shits about the player’s experience and this is one of the few games I felt completely robbed of my money.
