Season 1 Episode 5 “John Ripper presents Alfred with an offer; meanwhile, Lord Harwood’s fate takes a curious turn.”
What Was Good?
1. From that explosive cliffhanger in the previous episodes. We see Bet witnessed a man and woman walk into the building. It’s also Esme’s funeral, and Alfred is looking broken. Even having visions of his fallen comrades after the funeral. A strong start for sure.
2. Bet has been a character that I’ve had no interest in since the beginning of the show. However her character is taking an interesting turn. I don’t even know if she’s trying to be good or just a straight up villain.
3. Did not realise that homeless guy with no nose was Lord James Harwood. Former leader of the Raven Society. Wow. Well, Bet saves him anyway. The effects on his nose is so disturbing.
4. The Rocky montage with Alfred and John was a nice touch. John takes Alfred to Esme’s grave and offers a headstone. More importantly we learn the police believe Esme’s murder was a robbery. John knows differently. This is where it eventually gets incredibly interesting.
What Was Bad?
1. The riot was fun to watch briefly between Raven Society and the No Name League. However these two factions make no sense. I feel like I have no idea who they are, what they’re fighting about, or anything.
2. This whole circle between Martha, Thomas, and Alfred is becoming increasingly uncomfortable. The more it goes on the worse it gets.
Holy Shit Moment
Well damn. Dave Boy goes in for a kill, gets shot first. Alfred walks in and shoots one of the No Name League’s leaders in the face, with a double barrel shotgun, up close. Yes, we see it. That was just brutal.
The Verdict
This weeks episode was filled with action, and development to the story. However the episode did take a while before anything remotely interesting happened. The series is now beginning to take shape, and it’s only getting me more hyped to see more.
