Pokemon Sword & Shield “Vivid Voltage” Elite Trainer Box Review

Bit of a different review up on the site today, This time it’s not a show or a movie, but it’s a physical hands-on review for the newly released Vivid Voltage Elite Trainer Box Pokemon set.

You may or may not know that currently, the hype and excitement for Pokemon cards is at an all-time high with the likes of big YouTubers like Logan Paul buying base set boxes of Pokemon cards for a couple hundred thousand dollars.

I haven’t collected Pokemon cards in a while and recently got back into the whole world of Pokemon because of the games and a few people like Randolph Pokemon on YouTube.

I’ve recently been purchasing Elite Trainer Boxes to grow my collection, and I managed to pick up a new Vivid Voltage set so I decided to write my review/thoughts on the boxes.

I’ll break it up into 3 sections, For beginners, for collectors, and purely for profit. I’ll go into detail for those 3 sections too.

For Beginners

For small collectors/people just getting into the hobby of collecting Pokemon cards or even getting them to play the actual game, this box is a perfect introduction to the newer age of Pokemon cards.

I say “newer age” because I grew up on the OG Pokemon, Pikachu, Charmander, etc and in this set, there is Pokemon I haven’t heard off. Which isn’t a bad thing. It’s a great thing because I get to learn more about Pokemon. The box comes with a player’s guide which tells you how to play the game and about the cards.

The box also comes with a pack of 45 energy cards which is more than enough for a starter kit of Pokemon cards. It also comes with sleeves to keep your cards in perfect condition and not get any wear-and-tear on them.

For Collectors

As I mentioned in the “For Beginners paragraphs, This box comes with stuff to keep your cards in “mint” condition, it comes with sleeves to keep them in mint condition, not get anything fingerprints or damage to your cards, and the sleeves easily fit into a binder for even more protection.

I did, however, notice that some of the cards were not printed straight, the border around some cards, even reverse holo’s, normal Holo’s and V cards have one side of the border bigger than the opposite side.

While this isn’t a major issue, it could be for collectors who want to send some of these cards off to get graded in a gem mint 10, a border issue could affect the cards grade and take it from a gem mint 10 to a 9.

Purely For Profit

Again, the border issue will affect the people who are buying these cards purely for profit. As they’d want the highest grade possible, a gem mint 10, the border issue on some special cards will be affected and could cause the cards grade to drop a grade.

But the box does come with enough stuff to make your money back anyways. I paid £38 for the box its self. In the box, you get 8 Vivid Voltage booster packs which sold separately will cost £4 (maybe more on eBay). It comes with code cards for the trading card game which gives you digital packs. 45 energy cards which can sell for £1 for one card.

I’ve only opened 5 packs and already made 2 quarters of my money back of what I paid for the box. Which isn’t bad at all. I still have 4 packs left to open and could potentially get big hits in them.

If you get really lucky you could pull the fat Pikachu secret rare VMAX card which is currently selling at £200 in a raw card. A raw card is a card on its own. If you pull this card and send it off to get graded, you could easily sell it for more than the £200 raw price.

Again, I’d 100% recommend anyone to buy this box. I know for a fact that I’ll most likely buy another given the chance. Everything that comes with the box is great in quality, with some tiny issues but nothing major.
