Deadline has officially broke the news that Prison Break is set to receive a new season. I’ve heard mixed reports that it’s a reboot, although it technically is – from what I’m hearing it will take part in the Prison Break world we all know, just without the characters.
Elgin James who’s known for being the co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner of Mayans M.C. is set to be at the forefront of the new series.
Described as a new chapter, the new installment is set in the world of Prison Break, sources tell Deadline. Details are being kept under wraps but it is not expected to involve the characters who were at the center of the original series and its followups on Fox, Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows’ (Dominic Purcell), we hear.

We know that some of the cast did want to return for a 6th season of Prison Break. This was up until Wentworth Miller explained he wouldn’t return as he doesn’t want to play heterosexual characters moving forward.
So we’ve had the news above. As always on this network, we like to give our thoughts on the news. In this one, I’m a little taken aback. I’m torn with it because although season 1 of Prison Break was fantastic, it never lived up to that in the subsequent seasons after that.
So technically a reboot of the series could ensure that better direction is handled after the initial season.
However. Could anyone truly live up to Michael and Lincoln? I’ve watched Prison Break several times over and each time, the first season is so intense and this is partly due to the characters themselves. It remains to be seen but if Prison Break isn’t going to return for a 6th and final season, then I am more than happy to take a reboot.
In the Deadline article, I did take away that the show would still be within the Prison Break world so if that is the case and because the Fox River break was world news – we should still get to hear the names of all the characters we love.
