Let's TalkShowsThe Mandalorian

Rosario Dawson Is An Exceptional Ahsoka Tano

Of course, people on social media just love to throw their 2 pence of opinions in when something huge happens in a movie or a show. Especially when said movie or show is incredibly popular.

It’s no different with The Mandalorian, which is perhaps been the most talked-about show of 2020 with mostly positive conversations, except the odd few negative tweets. Queue the pathetic cancel culture trying to get rid of Baby Yoda, who we now know as Grogu.

Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian aired last Friday, the 27th November 2020. The episode was titled; “The Jedi”. We knew Ahsoka was coming, all the way from the leaks and confirmations before season 2 aired.

Rosario Dawson was cast, and maybe at first, I couldn’t see how she’d pull it off. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realised nobody better could actually bring the character live action.

Dawson is a fantastic actor, especially in the Marvel Netflix shows. So, as the episode drew closer, my excitement began to seriously peak.

And boy, it did. What a beginning. We finally got lightsaber action, white sabers for the first-ever time live-action, force powers, and more importantly, we saw Ahsoka decimate multiple armed guards.

Rosario Dawson portrayed Ahsoka in such a way that it felt like Ahsoka from the animated series. Granted, maybe not as agile with a slightly different voice, but we have to remember – it’s been many, many years since she was in Clone Wars and Rebels. She’s bound to sound a bit different, and I don’t knock Ashley Eckstein’s voice work as the character, because she was perfect.

The complaints I have seen is that the acting was iffy. If it was so off, then why didn’t Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni pick up it was off? Why didn’t the executives pick up it was off? Surely, if it was as off as people make out, then why didn’t the people that make millions of dollars per year pick it up? I’d think the expert Directors that are paid a lot of money to put a quality product that’s in the biggest franchise on the planet would pick it up.

You’re of course absolutely entitled to dislike a casting, and that’s fine. You may just not like the performance, but in turn, just because you never liked it, don’t make excuses as to why. It’s okay to just not like something because you can’t get away with it.

It’s the same argument with Hayden Christensen. People think his acting was terrible when in reality it really wasn’t. It’s just the script he was working with obviously wasn’t the best. People love to complain over nothing.

Working onto the next is her fight scene at the end. People say she should have wiped the floor, and it shouldn’t have been a fight. It’s those people that clearly didn’t watch the episode properly.

She needed information, and even a casual who paid attention would realise she was just straight up toying with her. She couldn’t just kill her, otherwise, the information she needed, she wouldn’t have got…obviously. Everyone knows Ahsoka would have ended the fight in seconds, you don’t need to be an expert to realise that. Just don’t be a moron and pay attention to the show.

There’s my 2 pence on that anyway. I get a little bit defensive when I read these comments because most of the time there’s just no reason for it. The episode was fantastic, I enjoyed every single moment of Ahsoka. I for one, really hope we see her again before the season ends.
