Firstly, I’ll begin by saying I know nothing about this character except for the martial arts and he has a connection to Iron Fist and The Mandarin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with me knowing absolutely nothing about this character this gives me a pretty decent task of exploring this character from the beginning.
With characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk among many more, I know their backstories, I know their powers, abilities, villains, and basically where they stand. With Shang-Chi this will be a completely new experience for me to enjoy this character.
Why I’m Excited For The Movie?
One of the major reasons I’m excited about it is simply because of the martial arts. We’ve had it teased in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we’ve had it in the Netflix Marvel series with Danny Rand aka Iron Fist. I’m a huge martial arts fan, I think Bruce Lee is a major part of me liking martial arts, as well as Jackie Chan. I grew up on these two incredible humans.
The next reason I’m excited about it is the passion and commitment from Simu Liu for the role. He truly cares for this role, and he truly is more of a fan than an actor in this role. His tweets and posts about the movie truly showcase this. This is one of the reasons why I continue to get excited about the movie.
The third reason is simply the star-studded cast that this movie has. This movie has got some legendary Asian talent from Tony Leung who is playing Wenwu aka The Mandarin, Michelle Yeoh who is playing Jiang Nan, Fala Chen who is playing Jiang Li.
Then we have the rest of the cast, Simu Liu who’s playing Shang-Chi, We have got Awkwafine, my favorite comedian Ronny Chieng, and Florian Munteanu who was a recent breakout star in Creed 2. This cast is insane from older talent to younger talent. I can not wait to see what they do together.
And finally, we can not do this article and not mention that this movie is representing a large portion of the Asian audience, The Asian diversity that this movie will bring to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is beyond amazing, it’s powerful. It is what is needed.
It’s very similar to what Chadwick Boseman did with the Black audience. He brought this audience to the forefront, he gave the Black audience someone to look up to, to be inspired by as not only being a Black superhero but to be a leader, to be a king. This is what I believe Simu Liu and the cast of Shang-Chi will do once this movie releases.
The action will be great too, I can already imagine the insane fight sequences that will happen throughout this movie, I believe this movie will bring a new “world” into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to expand it so much more than it is already.
I can not wait for this movie. I feel like many people are not paying enough attention to it when they should be, This is what is needed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I wish this movie and the cast all the success in the world with this movie.
