Season 1 Episode 1 – “Jen Walter’s world is turned upside down after a freak accident leaves her with superpowers.”

What I Liked
1. Jennifer is introduced and she’s already a “Hulk”. She explains by breaking the fourth wall and a flashback scene happens where we see Jennifer and Bruce on a road trip when a spacecraft appears in front of them causing them to crash. This is when we see Jennifer “Hulk” out and Bruce does the same.
2. The CGI seems to be better for She-Hulk now. Unless it’s just for the first episode but so far, every time we’ve seen She-Hulk appear she looks completely fine compared to the first trailer we saw. Hopefully, this continues throughout the season.
3. This is a small detail but I love the way Bruce/Smart Hulk is remembering Tony stark. Bruce is keep mentioning him. We saw a smashed Iron Man helmet, Bruce mentions to Jennifer that he and Tony built the bar, and Tony mostly drank. We did see carved initials for both characters though.
4. The Hulk and She-Hulk “fight”. It was fun, It’s been a while since we’ve seen the Hulk fight. I’ve missed it. I feel like the Hulk should be doing more. Overall his appearance in this series thus far has been a welcomed addition.
5. In the post-credit scene, we see a drunk Jennifer and Smart Hulk at his bar, they are speaking about Captain America once again. Bruce tells Jennifer that Steve lost his virginity to someone on the USO tour in World War 2. Jennifer gets cut off before she can scream out loud “Captain America f**ks”
What I Disliked
Not sure I like the changed origins for Jennifer. The way that Bruce’s blood got into her blood and caused her to become a Hulk like Bruce is weird. I would have preferred to see the story of Jennifer getting shot and having Bruce realize that she was going to die so he gave her a blood transfusion. Hopefully, I come to like this new origin.
Favorite Moment
While giving her closing argument in court, a villain barges through the wall causing mayhem. Jennifer does her “Hulking” out and turns into She-Hulk in court in front of everyone. She easily takes down the villain.
Standout Character
Jennifer. This first episode was all about her. Bruce/Smart Hulk didn’t take any spotlight away from her.
Verdict
Overall a fun start to the new Disney+ series. I think the tone and flow of the episode were really great. Still a bit “meh” on the new origin story but it’s not a big deal. Jennifer and Bruce’s chemistry seems to be really amazing. The quality seems to be improved too. Tatiana Maslany is fantastic.
